Certified Tutor

With my many years of teaching experience, I have learned that the impact I have on my students is immense. A teacher has the power to make or break a child's mind and soul My choice is always to create. I believe that the young mind has the right to be given an opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge they can use throughout their lives. Every student no matter where they come from, what values they hold, and what culture they practice, they should have the opportunity have their minds cultivated and opened. It is only in this regard that they will have the knowledge and ability to think critically, believe in themselves and become citizens that contributes to society's well being.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that everyone is capable of learning, however, not all can learn the same way. Differentiated instruction for varied learners should always be provided.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Before a student becomes an independent learner, he/she must be given the knowledge and tools to develop his/her own system of learning- learning how to learn.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

The only way one is motivated is to find something meaningful in it. It can be in a form of a reward or a corresponding consequence. If the student finds either meaningful, then you have his/her attention.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I will find another way to teach it.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Learn the student's need and find an instruction that would answer that need.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Show and tell, and then the student teaches it to me for assessment.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I try to make my lesson and my instruction alive by using materials and tools to make it more interesting. A few pats on the shoulder for encouragement goes a long way.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Develop a rapport and assess the needs of the student

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Show and tell, discussion and Q&A

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Assessments; student inquiry, pre tests, post tests.
