What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe we all learn in different ways. Whether it be through listening, drawing, painting, acting, or writing. I believe the most motivated students are driven by intent and not external rules. I strive to awaken this intent in my students, so that they may be successful.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Definitely introduce ourselves. Find out how they learn (auditory, visual, etc.) and map out a good plan for future sessions.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By ensuring they are driven by intent. If intent exists, success is always within reach.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would keep sessions interesting, and ensure they are seeing results in order to stay motivated.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would step back and assess whether they need to learn this skill or concept in a different way. We must always think outside the box. We must always find out the true cause for the issue rather than wasting time with quick fixes.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I help my students by exploring different ways to comprehend a reading. Perhaps trying audio books, or sketching out stories, or acting out the stories. Then, I'd help them to use this creativity when reading.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Finding out their preferred way of learning.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would bring real life examples of how this subject can expand their knowledge as a person, friend, family member, and not only as a student.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Ask meaningful questions. Hold meaningful discussions.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Definitely would ensure to encourage their confidence, and praising while allowing room for improvement always.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

By finding out more about their situation, background, and intent for learning.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I use the writing board, articles, music, drawings, anything creative and that would stimulate creativity.
