What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student deserves the chance to excel.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Ask where he/she feels comfortable with the subject material and where he/she feels uncomfortable.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Independent learning occurs when a student takes the next step beyond the basics of what is required.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Always keep in mind the objectives of the learning. Look for ways to apply the learning beyond a classroom.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Find new ways to describe the problem. Ask the student to describe the problem in his/her own words and see if a solution comes to mind from that.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Take notes. The notes should be about the topic and, importantly, about what was not understood.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Ask the students to describe the problem to be solved. If the student does not understand the assignment, it is difficult to solve it.
