What is your teaching philosophy?

There is no one correct method; every student has a unique learning style.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Discuss their goals, their learning style, their strengths, their weaknesses and work together to design a plan moving forward.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

It is all about breaking things down into manageable parts that the student can piece together on their own. If the answer is simply provided, there is no learning occurring.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would keep a student motivated by always making sure to have goals, both short-term and long-term, set by the student that give them something tangible to strive for.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Try coming at the topic from different angles until we find something that makes sense.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Once they know what to look for and where to focus their attention, repetition is key. Working through passages together until they have mastered the necessary skills.
