Communication is key to all of my methods. I like to explore student's questions thoroughly in order for the student to grasp the concept or method in question.

I would introduce myself and ask the student about themselves. I would try to get the student to talk with me on what areas they feel weakest in in the subject area.

I try to instill a sense of curiosity about a subject in the student so they can feel more confident in their skills and know they can always seek out more knowledge on anything anytime.

I would help a student stay motivated by encouraging them, making sure to make a real connection with them, and letting them know I care about their progress. I want them to learn the material and feel confident in the skills they learn while in my tutelage.

I would find an individualized method to reach the concept to the student. I would want the student to absorb the information we're covering so they can build upon it as they move onto more difficult concepts.

I like to take smaller portions of the text we are reading and go over it with the student. We read it first, and then I ask what they remember about what we just read. I would do this for each section until the end of the practice text, and then ask what happened overall to make sure the student is retaining the information from the text.

I find that connecting with the student and finding ways to interest the student in the material through personal connection or mental stimulation.

Games and asking deeper into what they are interested in. For reading, I may find a book or series of books that may interest the student based on its subject. With games, I try to get the student to use the skills we are trying to build and refine to win or finish the game.

I ask the student how they feel about their competency in the area they have requested tutoring in. I then build my lessons for them on what areas they feel least confident in. Confidence helps learning stick.

I like to use visual materials and a lesson plan that I've built for the student based on their areas of weakness. I will use practice texts to work on repetition and practice tests to measure a student's progress.

Practice tests are usually my best judgment on what areas may still need work and what areas have been improved on.

I like to give my students honest and encouraging feedback to help build a trusting relationship and confidence in my student.
