What is your teaching philosophy?
Everyone learns in a unique way. Making sure that students have choices and understand what they are learning is my top priority.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know the student and their expectations after tutoring. Knowing this would allow me to better cater to their needs.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By allowing the student to pick answers on their own by breaking questions down and using context clues.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Let them know that they aren't alone, and by cheering them on.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Relate it back to them.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
By giving examples that they can understand.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Relating the questions to things that they see and experience everyday.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Having the student look at the subject through a different lens and giving motivational words through it.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Ask questions at the end of a session.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
By reminding them of their abilities.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I assess prior knowledge.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
By finding what works best for the student.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Worksheets, paper, and pencils.
