Hey, I'm Miles!

I am a freelance visual artist and avid DIYer who has been madly in love with creating since I was a little kid. I come from a family of artists, some of whom are painters, wood craftsmen, photographers, designers and musicians. My family passed their passion for art onto me and I am hoping to do the very same for you as a Varsity Tutor. I have a BA in Studio Art from the University of Minnesota and love drawing stylized portraits and lettering, screen printing, creating graffiti and children's murals, logos and illustrations. I also love working with TONS of different materials, but especially gravitate towards graphite, watercolors, pen and ink, paper and fabrics and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I also have years of manufacturing experience in which I was directly involved in the creation of products and worked with my hands. My experience as a production team member helped solidify my understanding of creating from conceptualization and fabrication through to execution and presentation. This knowledge has been indispensable as a visual artist and craftsman.

My approach to teaching is to create right alongside you to offer an example of how I would approach creating which offers a jumping off point to begin developing your own approach and style, to help someone who is struggling with feeling self-conscious feel more comfortable, and to make the learning process as fun and as engaging as possible. I believe that if you feel very comfortable and are having fun that understanding and improvement comes a lot more quickly and naturally.

I am here to answer any and all sorts of art and art history related questions and work through concepts and techniques you would like to better understand so you can further develop your knowledge and mad skills! Whether you just have a quick question and would like some clarification or you would like some longer-term support, I would be more than happy to connect with you.
