Certified Tutor

I obtained my Bachelor's Degree from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN. I majored in Elementary Education (K-5) and graduated in 2015. My goal is to apply for my Masters in Reading Specialist within 2 years.
I have worked in the school system for 3 years. I started as a Teaching Assistant and worked with all ages. While being an Teaching Assistant, I worked as a tutor for nearly a year. I had 5 pupils that ranged from 6-12.
I was hired as a 1st grade teacher in 2016, and have been teaching all subjects since.
I am qualified to teach Kindergarten
through 5th grade elementary subjects.
My favorite subject to teach is Reading. Within reading, you have so many components that lead up to being a fluent reader. You have phonics, phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, and vocabulary. There are more components that make up the over arching subject of learning, and the younger years are critical! I love teaching it, because you are teaching young children strategies that they will carry with them their entire life.
My teaching style is firm, fair, and engaging. I firmly believe in making engaging activities to capture the attention of my students. However, with the engagement, I also promote high academic achievement by answer/asking higher order questions, have my students explaining their thinking, and pushing them to reach their potential. I believe in a strong teacher-student relationship that is built on trust, patience, care, and respect. My number one teaching rule is to be patient. All children learn at different levels and paces. It is up to me to differ my instruction to meet their individual needs.
I have numbers hobbies outside of my teaching profession. I am a vivid reader that ranges from English Classics of Jane Austin, to the newer genres of today. I love to write novels from mysteries to historical fiction. I love to be outdoors. My activities include kayaking, hiking, and teaching archery.
