As a dedicated educator and counselor-in-training, I am eager to share my knowledge and skills as a tutor. My academic journey, combined with my diverse research and teaching experiences, has equipped me with the tools necessary to foster a supportive and effective learning environment.
I am currently pursuing a PhD in Counseling and Counselor Education at North Carolina State University, where I am developing a deep understanding of mental health and its impact on learning. My academic foundation began with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from UNC Greensboro, where I graduated Cum Laude, followed by a Master's in Clinical Psychology from North Carolina Central University. My thesis, focused on the intersections of race, income, and mental health, reflects my commitment to understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by marginalized communities.
In addition to my academic background, I have honed my teaching skills as a Graduate Assistant Writing Consultant at North Carolina Central University. In this role, I assisted students in brainstorming, organizing ideas, and refining their writing, ensuring they felt confident in articulating their thoughts. My experience in this position has not only deepened my understanding of effective communication but has also equipped me with the patience and empathy necessary to guide students through their learning processes.
My research experience has further enriched my tutoring capabilities. I have presented at various conferences, focusing on critical issues in mental health and education. This exposure has enhanced my ability to convey complex concepts in an accessible manner, a vital skill for any tutor. I believe that effective tutoring is not just about imparting knowledge, but also about building students' confidence and helping them develop critical thinking skills.
Furthermore, my role as a Rehabilitation Counselor at the Division of Services for the Blind has given me practical experience in adapting my teaching strategies to meet individual needs. Working closely with clients to assess their abilities and create personalized rehabilitation plans has reinforced my belief in the importance of tailored instruction. I understand that each student has unique strengths and challenges, and I am committed to fostering a learning environment that respects and nurtures those differences.
Beyond academics, my involvement in community service, including my volunteer work with the Mobilizing African American Mothers through Empowerment (MAAME, Inc.) and as a Crisis Counselor, has enriched my understanding of diverse perspectives and the importance of accessibility in education. These experiences have instilled in me a strong sense of responsibility to empower others through education.
In conclusion, I am passionate about tutoring and dedicated to supporting students in their academic journeys. My extensive education, teaching experience, and commitment to understanding diverse learning needs position me as a capable and compassionate tutor. I look forward to helping students achieve their goals and fostering a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.
