Bringing Color to the Corners of the World by kameron - May 2025 Scholarship Essay

As a strategic media major, much of my education focuses on the use of the right brain—my ability to create. Through digital design, creative writing, and poetic imagery in photography, I’ve deepened my passion for artistic expression. These tools have reignited the child in me who loved to paint, write music, sing, and boldly explore personal style. My studies have not only sharpened my skills but also reminded me of the joy found in uninhibited creativity.

My university, being Christ-centered, also encourages us as young believers to impact the world through the love of Jesus. Over spring break, I went on a mission trip to Colombia and experienced the beauty of a vibrant, unfamiliar culture. While there, I noticed that many of the students we ministered to had strong creative desires. However, their ability to express themselves was limited by a lack of resources. Their schools taught the basic requirements needed to graduate high school but didn’t nurture their individual strengths, passions, or creativity.

If I had unlimited time and money, I would use them to travel the world and fund school programs in impoverished communities—programs that cultivate creativity and self-expression. I would provide the resources, qualified art teachers, and supportive environments necessary for students to explore their creative abilities. These programs wouldn’t exist simply to meet academic benchmarks, but to allow students the freedom to express what’s inside of them—without cost, without pressure, and without limits. Creativity should be more than survival or a grade; it should be a pathway to self-discovery and empowerment.
