I am a PhD Student in Linguistic Program at the University of Georgia. I received my Master’s degree in English Education at University of Missouri. My area of study is language acquisition and language learning process. As a native speaker of Chinese, my previous teaching experience includes working with bilingual Chinese American children in a Chinese language school and teaching English to the students in Chinese middle school, I am currently an instructor of the linguistic class at UGA. My past experience enabled me to gain excellent teaching skills as well as the ability to work with learners from different language backgrounds and age groups. I believe that language learning is not merely absorbing the linguistics of the language, but also the culture attached to it. I am passionate about Chinese language tutoring and willing to help students prepare for Standardized Tests. By integrating cultural aspects into my teaching, I expect my students to not only develop solid language skills, but also to be able to think in that language, which serves as the soul of that country and people who speak it. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, cycling and yoga.

I am also passionate about helping students improve their SAT scores (specifically the Critical Reading and Writing sections), and I love editing essays. I have edited countless essays throughout my academic career--essays for specific classes, college applications, and even job applications. I love taking someone's writing and helping them rephrase sentences, fix grammatical errors, and ensure the most effective communication of ideas. When tutoring for the SAT, I help lessen students' anxiety by teaching them proven test-taking strategies and material specific to the SAT Critical Reading and Writing sections. I will continue to review the material and practice strategies with the student until he/she feels fully confident! I am very conscientious and thorough, and no matter what subject I'm tutoring, I will do everything in my power to help a student understand the material and gain confidence! I will put in time and effort to stay up to date on applicable material/ information, and I will work with each student to tailor my teaching to his/her learning style. I look forward to working with you!
I am working my way to med-school and a bright future. Active in both the Honors program and Center for Undergraduate Research, I have developed a great work ethic which I hope to impart to my students! I've spent the past two summers teaching private swim lessons to children and adults throughout my community. Turning a person's goal into reality is the greatest thrill I've known! Similarly, I spent two semesters as a mentor at the Thomas Lay After-School Program in Athens, GA. There, I both tutored and befriended the children of the program. My favorite memory occurred during mandatory reading hours. A stubborn, apathetic boy refused to read any books. Rather than becoming frustrated, I asked him "If you could be any animal, what would you be?" I knew the library had a large section of zoology books, and hoped to pique his interest. Immediately, he responded "A fish!" The following weeks were filled with shark, octopus, and whale books. To this day, his transformation from disinterested to engaged and motivated fuels my desire to mentor today's youth.
I am currently finishing my senior year at the University of Georgia. I am pursuing Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and International Affairs with an anticipated graduation date of May 2015. My passion for tutoring was ignited when I was in high school where I provided assistance across all academic subjects to students in grades 6-12. While at college, I have provided private tutoring to friends and acquaintances. I tutor a variety of subjects within the social sciences as well as critical reading and writing of all kinds. My passion, however, lies with economics and the LSAT. Economics holds a special interest to me because it seeks to explain how decisions are made, whether by nations, businesses or individuals. As someone who plans to attend law school, I spent countless hours honing my LSAT skills, and I came to view the test not as a brutal exam, but as a game that can be won. Regardless of the subject I'm tutoring, I utilize the same philosophy with all of my students. I firmly believe that any student can master any subject or test, it is simply a matter of changing the way that material is presented and understood. Education is a vital part of personal development, and I consider it an honor to help students master material. When I'm not tutoring or rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs to win a national championship, I hone my trivia skills by watching as many movies and reading as many books as possible.
I am a former practicing attorney, transitioning into part-time tutoring and teaching so that I may spend more time with my family. I have previously taught part time at a local technical college. In addition to my teaching experience, throughout my career I have been responsible for training new legal associates, third-year law students, and interns. My favorite tutoring subject areas are writing, English, and reading comprehension. My undergraduate degree is in journalism and I have won several awards from the Georgia Press Association for my writing. I obtained perfect scores on the SAT verbal portion and on the SAT II test for Literature. My varied experiences have given me strong instructional, writing, and organizational skills that will allow me to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to increase their scores on standardized tests and perform better in school.
I am currently a student at the University of Georgia majoring in Finance and Chemistry. I enjoy tutoring students and helping them to clarify any confusion they have. A tutor should not only be there to help students faced with a difficult problem or concept, but a good tutor should encourage and motivate students to overcome obstacles and help students stay on track.
I am a certified English teacher for grades 6-12 with a Masters degree in English Education from Vanderbilt University and a Bachelors degree in English Literature and Writing from Sewanee the University of the South. I have taught in both Tennessee and Georgia public middle schools to diverse student bodies. My teaching experience is mostly with middle school aged students, where I focus on developing reading comprehension skills and helping students become better writers in preparation for high school courses. I am passionate about analyzing literature with students so they become more observant members of society and critical thinkers. I believe that students can overcome obstacles in their lives through becoming good communicators in reading and writing. When I am not teaching, I am an avid fan of reading fiction and poetry, testing out new recipes, and spending time outdoors.
I am a recent graduate from the University of Georgia, with a bachelors in Biology. Currently, I am working for a stem cell research lab at the university. I am super passionate about helping students of all levels grow into the smart young learners that I know they are. My teaching style is very nurturing. I am patient and understanding of their needs and will do whatever it takes to achieve their personal goals.
I am currently a full time student at The University of Georgia, pursuing a Bachelors in Business Administration/Accounting. I think it best to help other students in any way possible! By helping other students overcome obstacles in their academic areas, I feel a great sense of accomplishment in myself. Moreover, I just love to help!
I am an undergraduate student in my junior year at the University of Georgia. It is currently my second semester in the Tull School of Accounting here and I plan on pursuing a Masters of Accountancy in the graduate program. I have years of experience tutoring during my time as a member of a Math Honors Society. My focus is on tutoring is SAT math, AP and college statistics, beginner accounting courses, and most other mathematics high school courses such as algebra, calculus, etc. I'm both friendly and relatable and am eager to start working with you.
I am a Linguistics major at the University of Georgia. My favorite area of study is languages, such as Spanish and Arabic. I have strengths in Reading Comprehension, the Spanish language, Mathematics and Sciences. I have several years of experience in tutoring high school students and I find this experience of helping others to learn very enjoyable and rewarding. When not in class or studying, I like to cook or read to wind down. I also love drawing stills of the world and people around me. I am very excited to be a part of Varsity Tutors!
I am currently a student at the University of Georgia pursuing a Communications and Political Science double major. As someone who spent the majority of her high school years tutoring both peers and younger students, I was thrilled to hear about Varsity Tutors. I have had a passion for language arts for as long as I can remember. My main subjects are English -- reading, writing, test prep, and essay-editing. I have experience working with students of all age-levels, and I'm well-versed in a variety of different learning styles. I like to think of tutoring as a collaborative, constructive process, as I often end up learning as much from my students as (I hope) they learn from me. When I'm not busy with school, I enjoy volunteering, listening to all types of music, and and eating gargantuan amounts of ice cream.
I am a sophomore at the University of Georgia! I really enjoy watching and playing sports, fishing, and hanging out with friends. I like to think of myself as a very upbeat and positive person. I find solving tricky problems and learning to be very satisfying and something I take great pride in.
I am very familiar with the struggles of other students as well as methods to help them overcome those struggles and better their understanding of the topic of choice. I completed my Bachelor of Physics degree at the University of North Georgia, and I am currently a Mechanical Engineering student at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). Over the last couple of years, I have tutored students from middle school through undergraduate levels both privately and through university institutions in various mathematics, physics, and computer science (Coding languages and the like) topics. My teaching style focuses on "learning how to think", or metacognition as I believe it is highly important when it comes to education. Anyone can prosper in any educational environment/topic if they know how to approach the said topic. In my spare time, I enjoy going to the gym, playing soccer, hanging out with friends, and reading.
I am a senior at Purdue University studying chemistry and conducting research in the department of chemical engineering. I am also on Purdue's rowing team. My passion is for chemistry but I also enjoy reading and painting.
I'm more than qualified to assist in the understanding of English skills both verbally and on the page.
When I was young, I realized that I thought differently about Mathematics than my peers. I read the textbook and instantly understood it. Meanwhile, they struggled for hours. Seeing my childhood friends struggle in this way tugged on my heartstrings the same then as it does to see this struggle in my adult friends today. Because of this, I have developed a great passion for helping other people understand complex ideas. I have a strong belief that the best thing for a society is the spread of advanced critical thinking skills, so any learning assistance I can offer someone is doubly satisfying to me in that way. I studied for two years at Georgia Tech working towards a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, before having to withdraw for medical reasons. Through my work as a tutor, I intend to fund my return to collegiate education, although I am now interested in a degree more directly related to Mathematics. I enjoy tutoring many levels of Math, from basic Algebra all the way to mid-level Calculus. In fact, regardless of the topic at hand, I place a heavy emphasis on the importance of algebraic derivation, and understanding of Algebra in general. As they say, "Calculus is two steps of magic, and 30 steps of Algebra."
I am a writer and graduate of Columbus State University in Columbus, Ga.
