My main passions are Mathematics and Computer Science, although I have a strong academic background in several areas including English and the physical sciences. I have been tutoring since high school and have experience working with all ages in a number of subjects. I have the most experience working with high school and middle school students in mathematics. My other teaching experiences include tutoring in English and computer skills in an ESOL classroom for refugees, as well as private and group violin instruction for children of all ages. I believe that Math comprehension is absolutely essential to a successful education. As a tutor I focus on presenting material in a number of ways to accommodate all learning styles and making material relevant to the student. Helping students overcome the anxieties that so often accompany learning Math at the earliest and most crucial stages means helping students think about the material in a way that is meaningful to them and teaching them to relate Math to their own lives and interests in a way that fosters a passion that lasts far beyond the day of the big test and hopefully for a lifetime. Although my main focuses are standardized test preparation and Mathematics, I also tutor Chemistry, Physics, Reading Comprehension, Essay Writing, Grammar and a number of other subjects. In my free time I love playing with my computer, reading, practicing my violin and all sorts of outdoorsy activities.
