I am a rising sophomore at Emory University working towards a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology, as well as a minor in global health, culture, and society. I tutored in multiple subject areas in high school as a peer tutor as well as a tutor to younger students in elementary and middle school. I also tutored elementary school students in multiple subject areas during my first year at Emory. I tutor in many subjects, but have always been passionate specifically about tutoring in math. I have been tutored by peers many times throughout high school and college in different subjects, including the ACT. I found unique ways to solve problems and expand my problem solving skills through this, especially because I felt as though my peers were better able to relate to me, and therefore cater to my needs as a student. My approach is catered specifically to each student by first learning how he or she best learns, and then using tactics that will benefit them the most as they learn and grow as a student.

I am a graduate of the University of Memphis. I graduated magna cum laude in English with a concentration in Literature. While being a student I was part of the Honors Mentor-ship Program where I helped incoming honors freshmen get acclimated to college life. I held weekly meetings with them and helped them from homework assignments to where they could find good food in or around campus. I will be pursuing a masters degree in the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in the summer and hopefully one day become employed as a high school English teacher. I tutor in high school and college level English literature, writing, and grammar. Since my concentration was in literature my favorite area to tutor would be in any literature related assignment. Whether it be for reading comprehension, critical reading, or for research purposes. I believe education is very important and should not be taken for granted. The choices you make in a 4-8 year period greatly influence the rest of your life and getting a strong and well-rounded education helps set-up for future success. My spare time is generally filled with video games and reading (casual or academic) and always striving to learn new things.
The ACT Science section isn't really a science test — it's a data interpretation test disguised as one. Andrew scored a 32 composite on the ACT and teaches students to read graphs, identify trends, and compare experimental setups quickly without getting bogged down in the scientific jargon each passage throws at them. His biology background is a bonus when passages do require real content knowledge.
I am a graduate of Swarthmore College, where I studied Quantitative Social Science and Education. I currently work in marketing analytics for higher education institutions. My skills range from writing/editing to data analysis. I would love to chat and make a plan to help you reach your goals!
Treating the ACT Science section like a science test is the fastest way to run out of time. Eileen approaches it as a data interpretation exercise — she teaches students to read graph axes and table headers before touching the questions, which eliminates the panic that comes from unfamiliar topics like geology or astrophysics. Her 36 ACT composite backs up the approach.
Despite its name, ACT Science barely tests science knowledge — it's really about reading graphs, interpreting experimental setups, and drawing conclusions from data tables under time pressure. Kerr unpacks each passage type (data representation, research summaries, conflicting viewpoints) and teaches students exactly where to look for answers. His 36 composite came partly from treating this section as a reading exercise, not a science exam.
The ACT Science section is really a data interpretation test disguised as science — reading graphs quickly, spotting trends in tables, and evaluating conflicting hypotheses matter far more than memorizing biology facts. Charles scored a 34 ACT composite and, as a mechanical engineering student at Yale, spends his days doing exactly this kind of rapid technical analysis. He teaches students to attack each passage type with a specific strategy so they stop overthinking the science and start reading the data.
I am an Undergraduate Student at Vanderbilt University. With years of tutoring experience and a solid academic foundation, I am fully equipped to teach in various subjects at many different levels.
I am a freshman at Vanderbilt University studying biochemistry and involved in analytical chemistry research. Despite my studies being very science oriented, I also enjoy studying English and the humanities. I'd be happy to tutor you in any of these areas!
Most students panic when they see an unfamiliar experiment on the ACT Science section, but the test is really about reading graphs, interpreting data trends, and evaluating conflicting viewpoints — not recalling biology facts. Michelle's computer science background trained her to parse dense technical information quickly, and her 36 ACT composite means she's mastered exactly the data-extraction strategies this section demands.
The ACT Science section isn't really a science test — it's a data interpretation exercise disguised as one. Nat scored a 35 composite and teaches students to quickly parse graphs, conflicting viewpoints passages, and experimental designs without getting bogged down by unfamiliar terminology. Once students learn to treat each passage as a set of data relationships rather than a content quiz, their timing and accuracy improve dramatically.
Most students panic when they see an unfamiliar experiment on the ACT Science section, but the test is really about reading graphs and extracting trends under time pressure — not recalling biology or chemistry content. Dennis's 34 ACT composite and his years of analyzing real research data at Vanderbilt mean he teaches students to zero in on axes, variables, and conflicting viewpoints the way a working scientist would. That systematic approach consistently turns the Science section from a student's weakest area into a reliable score.
I am a student at the University of Denver! I've tutored people informally for a few years now, and I'm excited to work with Varsity. I can help with math up to pre-calculus, grammar, and especially biology. Science was my favorite subject in school!
The ACT Science section is really a data interpretation exam in disguise, and Teo treats it that way. He breaks down how to read conflicting viewpoints passages and extract trends from dense graphs without getting bogged down in the actual science content. His own 36 composite score came partly from mastering exactly this approach.
I'm currently a senior at Vanderbilt double majoring in history and business, while also preparing for the LSAT exam. I've tutored several different subject areas, but I can make the most impact assisting students with history, reading, and writing. I believe that every student has the potential to achieve their goals, and that by helping others I can enhance my own education as well.
I'm not striving towards that lofty goal, I'm trying to relax by doing yoga, reading novels, and eating lots of cupcakes.
I am a rising sophomore at the University of Alabama and I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I have been working with fellow students ever since kindergarten with questions they had on the subject matter the teacher was going over or on concepts from other classes I had previously taken. I personally enjoy tutoring many areas of mathematics. Math has always been my favorite subject as many of the concepts come easy to me upon initially learning them. My personal way of tutoring involves breaking down the problem into its individual concepts and making sure the student understands each of the concepts and then moving on to explain how the concepts tie together into the problem.
I am a recent graduate of Vanderbilt University where I received a BS in Human and Organizational Development. I also minored in Quantitative Methods and have a passion for statistics. I have spent time living in France and England and love to travel. My time abroad has cultivated a love of language and writing and how to use academic tools in order to create opportunities in life beyond the classroom. I am excited about helping students achieve their academic and personal goals.
The ACT Science section is really a data-interpretation exam disguised as biology, chemistry, and physics. Miah teaches students to ignore the jargon, go straight to the graphs and tables, and answer conflicting-viewpoints questions by treating them like mini debates — a skill her political science training makes second nature. She scored a 34 composite and holds a 5.0 student rating.
I am a Chemical and Bimolecular Engineering PhD student at Vanderbilt University. I have my B.S. and M.S. in Bioengineering and have been tutoring for 3+ years. I am looking forward to tutoring you and helping in any way I can! Feel free to contact me!

I'm Meredith. I am a student at Sewanee: The University of the South, where I am pursuing degrees in English and International Studies. I also am pursuing a certificate in Creative Writing. I love to read, write, and engage in anything that allows me to be creative. I have a passion for education as a student and as a teacher. I cannot wait to meet new students and provide help in any way I can!
I am passionate about helping others learn foreign languages! I have been studying Spanish for 6 years now and am now proficient on the professional level. As a graduate with a degree in Spanish with an education licensure, I look forward to helping others understand this beautiful language better! I always look to help students reach their goals with the language whether it's reaching proficiency, keeping up the skills, or simply learning how to use the language well enough for an upcoming test. Regardless, I aim to help others understand and appreciate Spanish and other languages in general.
The ACT Science section is really a data interpretation exam in disguise — most questions don't require scientific knowledge at all, just the ability to read graphs, compare experimental setups, and spot trends quickly. Grant scored a 33 ACT composite and teaches students to triage passages by type so they spend their time where it counts. Rated 5.0 by students.
The ACT Science section tests data interpretation far more than scientific knowledge, which is why an English major who scored a 34 composite can be exactly the right tutor for it. Matthew teaches students to read graphs, tables, and conflicting viewpoints passages the way they'd read any dense text — extracting the key claim, identifying variables, and ignoring the jargon designed to slow them down.
I am a second-year student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. I am double majoring in Cognitive Studies and Psychology with a minor in Computer Science. I have tutored high school and middle school subjects, standardized test prep, and helped students build college applications in Westchester County, NY and Fairfield County, CT. I have tutored in a range of subjects but particularly enjoy helping students gain both the skills and confidence needed to excel at essay writing. In my free time, I like to read non-fiction in a variety of subjects, SCUBA dive, and have recently taken up knitting. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals!
The ACT Science section is really a data interpretation exam disguised as biology, chemistry, and physics. Nathan's chemistry background lets him explain the actual science when it matters, but his main focus is teaching students to read graphs, compare experimental setups, and identify conflicting viewpoints fast — the skills that drive scores up. He holds a 34 ACT composite.
Most of ACT Science isn't really about science — it's about reading graphs, interpreting experimental designs, and spotting trends under time pressure. Maggie's biology degree gives her genuine fluency with the handful of questions that do require outside knowledge, while her 35 ACT composite shows she's mastered the data-reasoning skills that drive the other 90% of the section.
I am currently a senior at Vanderbilt University studying Mechanical Engineering with minors in both Mathematics and Financial Economics. I am an active leader of my sorority and outside of school I enjoy spending time with my friends, enjoying the outdoors, and soaking up everything Nashville has to offer before I graduate in May! After graduation, I will be moving to Washington D.C. to do technology consulting for Deloitte in their Federal practice. I am originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and love to travel to see other parts of the US and the world!
Most students panic when they see unfamiliar experiments on the ACT Science section, but the questions rarely require actual science knowledge — they require reading graphs, interpreting data trends, and comparing conflicting hypotheses. Marjorie, who holds a biology degree, teaches students to treat each passage like a data-extraction exercise and ignore the intimidating terminology. Her 34 ACT composite backs up the approach.
The ACT Science section barely tests science knowledge — it's really about reading graphs, interpreting experimental designs, and comparing competing hypotheses under time pressure. William treats it as a data-literacy exercise, teaching students to extract trends from figures and tables before even glancing at the answer choices. He earned a 32 ACT composite and carries a 4.9 student rating.
I am a recent graduate from High Point University. I earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Computer Science and Game Design and graduated with minors in Math and Business Administration. I have been tutoring and instructing math (more specifically Calculus and Algebra) since my freshman year of college, and I love it. I'm a passionate and energetic person who loves to share her enthusiasm with everyone. These traits are my greatest strengths when it comes to working with students, and I look forward to getting the opportunity to work with you!
The ACT Science section is less about knowing biology or chemistry and more about reading graphs, interpreting experimental setups, and comparing competing hypotheses quickly. Matthew, who scored a 33 composite, treats it as a data literacy exercise and teaches students to locate key variables and trends before even reading the questions. That shift in approach tends to cut down on the second-guessing that slows most test-takers.
I am a math and science enthusiast, always curious to learn more and share my knowledge with others. In my free time I love to hike, bike, lift weights, play badminton, play drums, and just relax or meditate.
The ACT Science section is really a data-literacy exam disguised as biology and chemistry. Kacey's engineering training at Georgia Tech involved constant graph analysis and experimental interpretation — she teaches students to read figures, identify variable relationships, and answer conflicting-viewpoints questions without needing deep content knowledge.
I am a freshman at the University of Michigan working towards a major in Economics with a Minor in Data Science. I think it's important to cherish education because it can genuinely teach you different skill-sets. I've tutored all throughout high school from Kumon to volunteering. I love working with all age ranges with different subjects (my favorite being spanish, algebra, geometry, english, and reading). I think it's important to have fun while you're learning and to genuinely understand the material, not just doing homework to get it done. It is also very important to take breaks while doing homework and to make sure to take your time. Also during standardized tests, it's a hard test and sometimes pressure gets to students. It's okay to make mistakes but practicing through it is the most important part!
Most students panic when they see unfamiliar experiments on the ACT Science section, but the test is really about reading graphs, interpreting data tables, and tracking variables across competing hypotheses. Elizabeth teaches students to ignore the jargon and zero in on what the data actually shows — a skill that cuts through even the most intimidating passages. She scored a 32 ACT composite using exactly this approach.
I'm Darby! I recently graduated from the University of Birmingham with an MA in Creative Writing. Frequently Asked Questions
The ACT Science section tests your ability to understand, analyze, and interpret scientific information—not your memorization of science facts. You'll work with data from experiments, graphs, tables, and passages across biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science. The section has 40 questions in 35 minutes, focusing on skills like reading charts, comparing results, and drawing conclusions from evidence.
Pacing is one of the biggest challenges students face—you have roughly 50 seconds per question. The key is learning which questions to tackle first (usually the straightforward ones) and which to skip if you're running short on time. Expert tutors can teach you strategies like scanning questions before reading passages, identifying question types quickly, and practicing with real ACT tests under timed conditions to build speed without sacrificing accuracy.
Taking full practice tests and reviewing your results question-by-question is the most effective way to spot patterns. Look for trends: Are you missing questions about interpreting graphs? Struggling with conflicting viewpoints passages? Having trouble with specific science topics? A tutor can help you analyze your practice test results, pinpoint exactly where you're losing points, and create a focused study plan to address those gaps rather than reviewing everything.
Score improvement depends on your starting point and how much you prepare. Students who work with personalized tutoring typically see improvements of 2-4 points on the ACT composite, with some seeing more depending on their baseline and effort. The ACT Science section rewards strategy and practice more than content knowledge, so focused preparation on test-taking techniques and timed practice can yield meaningful gains.
Most students benefit from 4-8 weeks of focused preparation, though this varies based on your current score and target. If you're aiming for a significant improvement, starting with a diagnostic practice test helps determine how much time you need. Consistent practice with real ACT questions, combined with personalized instruction on your specific weak areas, is more effective than cramming—even a few weeks of strategic preparation can make a real difference.
One-on-one instruction lets a tutor focus entirely on your unique challenges—whether that's reading comprehension, data interpretation, or test anxiety. Rather than generic test prep, personalized tutoring targets your weak areas, teaches you strategies that match your learning style, and provides immediate feedback on practice questions. For Memphis students juggling school and other commitments, tutoring offers flexibility and accountability to stay on track.
Your first session typically starts with a diagnostic assessment—either a full practice test or targeted questions—to understand your current skills and identify patterns in your mistakes. You'll discuss your target score, timeline, and any specific concerns about the section. From there, your tutor creates a personalized study plan focused on the areas where you'll gain the most points, and you'll start working on strategies and practice right away.
Test anxiety often stems from feeling unprepared or rushed. Building confidence through repeated practice with real ACT questions under timed conditions helps reduce anxiety—you'll know what to expect and feel more in control. Tutors can also teach you calming strategies like deep breathing, time management techniques to avoid panic, and how to skip difficult questions strategically rather than getting stuck. The more prepared you are, the calmer you'll feel on test day.
