I am experienced in tutoring math, science, English, and the environmental sciences, but my favorite subjects to tutor are beginner's Chinese, reading and writing skills, and essay writing and revision. Over the years, I've seen that every student has an individual, personalized learning style, and I strongly believe it is important for tutors to match their teaching styles to the student. The qualities I'll bring into every session with my students are patience, commitment, and persistence, with an eye for a comprehensive mastery of all aspects to the material.

I am a graduate of Texas A&M University; I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology along with being a minor in Spanish. I also studied at Plano ISD in high school. As Plano ISD is recognized for its academic achievements and competitiveness, I have always been positively challenged by my curriculum and by my peers to improve and to push myself to excel. From a young age, I have always been a part of the Gifted and Talented program. Trying to challenge myself and wanting to be different, I took a risk and joined the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, a program that was not as well recognized at the time and was extremely difficult. Joining the IB program was the best decision I have taken thus far. I gained knowledge from all around world- different insights, different histories, different philosophies, different literature, etc.

I am currently an undergraduate student at New York University. As someone who plans to work in education one day, I am extremely passionate about teaching and helping my students succeed. I love creating lesson plans, organizing work flow, communicating with my students, and growing alongside them. I tutor a variety of subjects ranging from elementary math/english all the way up to college calculus. With that however, I am most passionate about tutoring SAT and helping with the college application process as I have only recently gone through the process itself and have experienced first hand just how stressful and confusing it can be. In my spare time I enjoy figure skating, reading, drinking a good cup of coffee, and playing the viola.

I'm a second-year student at Rice University majoring in Biochemistry and Cell Biology as well as in English. My unusual double major is a result of my inability to choose a favorite subject--I love literature and science! This love of learning translates naturally to my role as a tutor. Because I love learning, I look for ways to transmit my passions to others by teaching them. Another reason I enjoy tutoring lies in my own experience as a student. I had to work very hard for the grades it took to get to college, so I understand the problems of the struggling student, and I try my best to relate the methods I personally used to overcome those obstacles.

I've always had excellent feedback about my tutoring services since I love forming connections with my students and make every tutoring session fun and educational at the same time. If you need an A in your math class or need to ace your SAT math section, look no further :)

I am a science writer and podcaster with a rigorous academic background who is passionate about sharing my knowledge of chemistry with curious minds. I earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry and Asian art history from UC Berkeley and completed a PhD in inorganic chemistry at MIT. I have five years of experience teaching college-level general and organic chemistry courses at various institutions in California, Massachusetts, New York, and Texas, and hope to expand on my experience as a private tutor. Often a required subject for other classes, chemistry is often considered "the central science" as it's related to biology and physics, and I appreciate that chemical principles can be observed throughout daily life from cooking to medicine to electronics. I believe that education is the world's greatest social equalizer and hope that my students learn to make new connections between classes and other aspects of their life. Outside of science, I love dogs, food, and the outdoors.

I am a prematriculant student at the University of Chicago. In high school I took advanced STEM courses at the University of North Texas through a high school program called the Texas Academy of Math and Science. I love taking high level math courses, but I get even more excited when I can help friends and classmates in courses I have already taken. I believe that having a solid understanding of math concepts builds you up for success in any field. I have experience as a teaching assistant in pre-calculus and calculus and have experience tutoring and assisting students in high school math, calculus, and differential equations. When preparing students for standardized tests like the ACT and SAT, I focus on filling any gaps in material and teaching new techniques for making the test easier and quicker to take. I have used and perfected these techniques while taking the ACT and SAT myself and have had success on both tests. I am also a National Merit Finalist.

I am currently a senior at Emory University studying chemistry and applied math with a focus on inorganic chemistry. I will be available to tutor algebra, trigonometry, algebra 2, biology, chemistry, calculus, geometry, pre- calculus, and ACT prep. I started tutoring in high school and continued tutoring at Emory where I tutored general chemistry, introductory biology, and calculus for two years. Apart from academic tutoring, I am also involved in Project SHINE which teaches English to recent Atlanta immigrants. I believe that education (no matter what kind) is crucial in life, but I also strive to emphasize why something is important. In my experience, most students struggle with something because they don't understand exactly why it is important or simply do not care. I am heavily involved in academic research at Emory so I am able to help a student understand exactly why a specific subject area is important and how it is continuously applied both in the lab and in the real world to improve our lives. It's always easier to see the physical and practical applications of a subject than try to visualize its importance on paper. In my spare time I enjoy chemistry, ancient Roman history, jam bands, running, cycling, and scuba diving.

I am a Junior undergraduate student at Texas A&M University. I am currently in pursuit of a Computer Science Degree with a Mathematics Minor. Throughout high school and college, I have seen some peers struggle in concepts of Math due to a lack of foundational knowledge. Especially since I have been in the shoes of a high school student enrolled in higher-level math courses, I strongly believe that I have the knowledge and experience to help students grasp the important fundamentals that are required to gain a deeper understanding of Math. My biggest goal is to be able to pass on my knowledge to other students and to be able to take part in the success of other people.

I am currently an undergraduate student at University of Texas at Dallas, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and minor in Marketing. I have worked with students and tutored them in STEM subjects such as mathematics and science, and I have also helped students with history projects and essays. My favorite subject to tutor is science because I am able to use simple real-world examples to explain more complex topics, which allows for me to create a more engaging experience for the students and connect with them as well. I believe that there is no greater power than knowledge and your ability to apply yourself using vast information that is learnt either from school or experiences. Moreover, I believe that students who choose to seek help through tutoring embark upon a path to become the best version of themselves, starting with academic success. In my spare time, I like to read, draw/paint, and watch movies. In essence, I would love the opportunity to make someone interested in learning as much as I love learning about new information and ideas.

I'm lucky to be born with test-taking skills that helped me pass every test and certification exam on 1st attempt, including SAT, TOEFL, FE, PE, etc. But it's not the full picture. I've long been passionate about math, physics, and science since a kid, straight As record, and went to High School for the Gifted in Math. I then decided to turn those interests into a professional career through my formal education in mechanical engineering at Iowa State University. Not only do I work hard on every subject and test prep, but I also study smart to accomplish high scores within the same averaged study time compared to others. I feel the urge to share my knowledge and skillsets with young people. Furthermore, I'm fascinated to help people succeed with their education and profession, whether it means a good grade for their classes or passing tests and certifications. People find me friendly, easy to work with, and responsive when they need help. Finally, I take pride in the work I do, and will do it to my best. If you are struggling, I want to help you earn confidence again. If you want to pass an exam or certificate, I will ensure failure is not an option. And if you have an ambitious dream to be the best among others, I can't wait to make it happen with you. What are you waiting for? Let's get in touch.

Math and science don't have to feel scary or boring and writing doesn't have to feel impossible. I'm a biochemistry and biology tutor who loves turning "wait what?" moments into "ohhh, that makes sense." My style is interactive, patient, and very visual. I focus on understanding the why, not just memorizing facts. As a graduate of Harvard University with a Master's in Global Health and a Bachelor's in Public Health from UT Austin, I bring a strong academic foundation to my tutoring practice. With over 2 years of experience in tutoring and classroom settings, I specialize in subjects such as Biology, Biochemistry, and Creative Writing. My teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity and critical thinking. In my free time, I enjoy reading and creating art (recently started block printing), which I incorporate into my sessions to make learning engaging and relevant. Let's make learning fun!!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students across Plano's 106 schools in both the Plano Independent School District and Prosper Independent School District. With over 46,000 students in the area, we work with learners at every grade level and academic background, from elementary through high school.

Personalized 1-on-1 instruction targets the specific Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards your student needs to master. Tutors work with students on the exact concepts their school is teaching, whether that's foundational math skills, reading comprehension, or STEM subjects, ensuring they keep pace with grade-level expectations and build confidence in core areas.

While Plano's average class size is reasonable, even in smaller classes teachers manage diverse learning needs across 20+ students. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction fills gaps that classroom teaching can't address—tutors focus entirely on your student's learning style, pace, and specific struggles, whether that's catching up after absences, preparing for AP exams, or building skills in challenging subjects like chemistry or algebra.

During the first session, the tutor learns about your student's current level, specific challenges, and academic goals. They'll review recent schoolwork, understand which Texas standards or concepts are causing difficulty, and create a personalized plan. This foundation ensures every future session builds directly toward measurable progress.

Plano students frequently seek support in math (algebra, geometry, precalculus), sciences (biology, chemistry, physics), standardized test prep (SAT, ACT, AP exams), and English/language arts. We also work with students on executive functioning, study skills, and subject-specific preparation for Plano ISD and Prosper ISD curricula.

After learning about your student's needs, learning style, and goals, we connect you with an expert tutor who has relevant subject expertise and experience working with students in Plano schools. You can meet with your matched tutor right away, and if the fit isn't perfect, we'll help find a better match.

Yes, tutoring frequency and package length are customizable based on your student's needs and schedule. Whether your student needs weekly sessions during the school year, intensive test prep before AP exams, or targeted help before a major assignment, we can create a plan that works for your family.

Tutors provide regular progress updates and work with you to track improvements in school grades, test scores, and confidence. You'll see concrete results like better performance on TEKS-aligned assessments, improved homework quality, and increased engagement with challenging subjects—all measurable signs that personalized instruction is working.
