What is your teaching philosophy?

A good education leaves students with joy, motivation, and, most importantly, the ability to educate themselves.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I will have the student finish a pre-assessment to understand his/her current level; I would talk with the students and try to understand his/her personal preferences, traits, and emotions towards learning. I'd also have the student set up a goal that's most relevant for him or herself.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I always try to help my students understand what they want to pursue after, and what learning means to allow them to reach their dreams. On the technical level, I would help the students go through what they struggle the most with, and encourage them to believe that they can achieve independently.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Keep the sessions interesting and helpful. More importantly, be an interesting and helpful teacher so I can connect with the students.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Communicate with them and try to understand what is behind those difficulties - is it a core concept, a mental barrier, or simply lack of practice?

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Start with short sentences and daily conversations that are relevant to the student's own life.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Have them believe that I am willing to try hard so they can learn and have fun.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Use educational games, and assure the student that we will take time on the hard contents.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Use different questions that cover the same materials in the quizzes.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Combine easy and hard questions; always try to recognize the student's achievements when s/he gets a question right.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Through frequent communication and observation.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Communicate with the student how s/he feels about the sessions and what can be changed. Change my pace, style of teaching, etc., depending on the student's performance and improvements.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Books, notebooks, games.
