I am a lifelong learner, teacher, and researcher in the field of physics. I received a PhD in Physics from the University of Michigan and a BS in Physics from Rice University. I have four years of physics teaching experience at the University of Michigan, primarily undergraduate laboratory courses with an emphasis on electromagnetism, circuits, waves, optics, and real-world applications of these and other physical phenomena. Many of these courses, including one I helped design, focused on helping non-STEM students master physics concepts that may be difficult to grasp in a standard classroom setting. I have tutored in a variety of subjects since high school, but most recently I have spent several years helping students understand concepts and succeed in coursework throughout a large variety of college-level physics topics, from basic mechanics to advanced electrodynamics and special relativity.

I am passionate about children's education and excited to help students learn!
I am a PhD student at the University of Michigan, studying social psychology. Before this, I was at Duke University completing a BS in psychology as well as a MS in global health. My research combines the fields of global health and psychology by examining the effects of culture on self-related psychological processes. I hope to continue in academia to become a professor of psychology, as teaching is among my greatest passions.
I am a senior at Yale University studying English. I have 5+ years experience tutoring high school/middle school students in writing, college essay editing, Common App advising, AP English, and ACT! My students have earned acceptances to Brown, Duke, Cornell, Vanderbilt, and the University of Michigan.
I am a current sophomore at Yale University, studying Environmental Engineering and Global Affairs. I spent four years tutoring K-12 students in reading and math, and I believe in the importance of appreciating the process of learning and mastering concepts.
I am currently working towards my MD/PhD degree at Michigan Medical School.
I am a current medical student at the University of Michigan Medical School. I studied biology, business and Spanish at the University of Alabama, graduating summa cum laude. During college, I worked as a tutor with a tutoring company similar to Varsity Tutors where I taught college/high school/middle school Spanish, Chemistry, English, Biology, and Math. I also worked as an English as a Second Language volunteer instructor for 3 years during college and was an English Teaching Assistant at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin, Colombia.
I'm a doctoral candidate at Princeton University in the German department, where I've taught German language, literature and philosophy since 2008 and regularly received the highest scores for student satisfaction on my teaching evaluations. I majored in Biology and German as an undergraduate at the University of Michigan. I believe it is a teacher or tutor's responsibility to determine a student's individual learning style and tailor her lessons accordingly. I do a brief interview with each client to ascertain whether he or she is a visual, auditory or combination learner and teach with these results in mind. I look forward to working with you to achieve your academic goals!
I am a learner for life and I love sharing my knowledge with others. I have tutored middle-school students for one year and university students for two years. My focus is mainly on mathematics, chemistry, and related fields. I have degrees in both mathematics and biomedical engineering so I cover a lot of ground in the physiological sciences, computer programming, and statistics as well. Taking tests is one of my strong points and I have some killer strategies to share!
I am a current undergraduate at the University of Michigan. I am a Biochemistry major and Philosophy minor, with years of experience tutoring students. Through high school, I tutored kids in the ACT, math, science, literature, and debate. My favorite subject to tutor is Chemistry, as I have taken Chemistry Honors, AP Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry(1 and 2). I believe that tutoring is a two way street, with the student learning about the material, but the teacher learning about how the student interacts with the material. Due to this, I am a very hands-on tutor who is always available for a text/call outside of class. Outside of academia, I am a singer and have been for 13 years now - a choir singer for 7 years and now in a premier acapella group at the University of Michigan.
I am currently a student at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. I am working on my third year in the Bachelors of Business Administration program. Throughout my time in both college and high school I have experienced the frustration and pains of students, whether it be myself or my friends. I have always helped my friends with the subjects they struggled with (Calculus, ACT science, Economics, etc.) because I want to see them succeed. I decided to become a tutor to help others succeed as well. I teach ACT, SAT, Statistics, Economics, Business, Math, English, Environment Science, Reading, Writing, and Essay Editing. I especially enjoy teaching Essay Editing, Reading, and Writing because there is more flexibility and opportunity to add your own style into these subjects. Outside of school I enjoy playing tennis, working out, DJing and cooking.
I am an artist and journalist from Ann Arbor, MI attending Harvard College in Cambridge, MA. I'm excited to work with students in my area and online.
I am a rising Junior computer science major, biochemistry minor at Carleton College. I remember how important asking for help was when I was studying for exams and would love to assist students going through the same process. Although I am knowledgeable in many subjects, I am most equipped tutoring in college and high school-level computer science, college and high school-level biology, and SAT prep. During high school, I tutored my classmates in preparation for the SAT, and have two years of experience tutoring college students in computer science courses. I learn best when I understand the practicality and relevance of the material, and hope to instill those concepts in my lessons.
I'm an incoming full-time MBA student at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. Growing up, my mother was a teacher, and instilled in me a love for learning. In high school, I tutored my younger brother across many subjects. Since, I've volunteered as an SAT Tutor with New York Cares for an underfunded public school in my old neighborhood in Manhattan.
I am a chemistry/math tutor with hundreds of hours teaching both subjects. What separates me from other tutors is my fantastic attention to the learning styles of different students, and my ability to attune my teaching style to each individual student. I am a big believer in letting students utilize tutoring time in the way they believe best, and I try to make myself a resource more than an instructor, which reinforces good study habits as well as lets me help the student with subject material. I will be attending the University of Michigan to major in Mathematics in the Fall.
I am a Computer Science graduate from the University of Michigan, initially from central New Jersey. I have worked to tutor students through Varsity Tutors for around 4 years. I am confident in my abilities to tutor with college admissions exams such as the SAT and ACT, including specialized SAT subject tests. I also tutor in math, until Multivariable Calculus, and can help with computer science skills and languages. I believe teaching is best done through discussion and conversation, and lead my tutoring sessions with this mentality. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy playing tennis, piano, and exploring new coffee shops!
I am currently a fourth year dental student at University of Michigan. I graduated from Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University with a double Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Psychology. I have been tutoring for approximately eleven years, and have worked with students ranging from third grade to college students. I began tutoring as a way to give back to the community, help students become interested in the world around them and grasp the knowledge just waiting at their fingertips. I have tutored a variety of subjects including Math, Reading, Writing, and Science classes, as well as standardized tests such as the SAT and assisted with college admission essays. I really enjoy tutoring Math, because it was one of the subjects I struggled with the most while going through Middle School and High School. It taught me how essential it is to have a strong foundation not just in Math, but in any and every subject. Having struggled in certain courses before, I understand how frustrated students might get if they are struggling to understand something that is not "sticking," and I try to make tutoring more interactive and fun to counteract that. Also, I focus on making sure students truly understand the concepts we are learning, rather than just memorizing facts in the moment. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing badminton, singing, and traveling to new cities around the World.
I am comfortable working with students in general education and students with disabilities. I have a lot of experience teaching from the past year, and two years of pre-student teaching and student teaching experience in college, along with experience tutoring students during the summer.
I am a student at the University of Michigan, pursuing a major in Psychology with a minor in Spanish and Business. I am committed to helping instill the element of curiosity into students and giving them the tools to ensure success. I have eight years of tutoring experience starting at elementary school mathematics, science, and language arts. Along with that, I have tutored students primarily in middle and high school level mathematics, PSAT & SAT math and language arts. I have a passion to leave students with a little more than the facts and opinions that they learn, but a way to express the knowledge during their lives.
I have earned my Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan for Psychology and Creative Writing & Literature. I have been teaching a first-year seminar in the social sciences for two years now and believe that mentorship is invaluable to a student's success. Law school is my future, and I would love to use my education to help others advance to their future goals.
I am a recent graduate from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science in Geology-Biology. I have been working with kids in a teaching environment since I was 14, when I worked as a teacher's aide at my local Hebrew School. In 2012, I spent the summer teaching teens how to live in the backcountry and repair trails in the White Mountains. I have been tutoring for the past year in English, writing, math from elementary through high school levels, standardized tests, and chemistry. I enjoy tutoring for the SAT and ACT the most; I feel like every problem is a puzzle and I love helping students learn how to work the puzzles themselves. My philosophy for tutoring is if one explanation doesn't work, try to explain in another way. I am a ubiquitously empathetic person, and it helps me approach problems and schoolwork through the students' perspective and find the best way to explain any given topic.
I am a young professional working for an automotive company in the Ann Arbor, MI area. I have an engineering degree from Michigan State University and miss being in the classroom. I hope to get my education fix being your tutor!
I'm Uchenna! I'm from Beltsville, MD and I currently am taking a year off between my third and fourth years at the University of Michigan Medical School to do biomedical research at the NIH. I also graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) with a B.S. in Biochemistry and a minor in Psychology. I have quite a few years of tutoring under my belt as I tutored for about 3 years when I was at UMBC. And although I had no formal tutoring positions in medical school, my classmates and I constantly taught each other our material and various concepts. I love tutoring because I know trying to be successful in your coursework can be difficult and when you can help someone throughout that journey, it truly is beneficial for both tutee and tutor seeing the mutual satisfaction in that person's progress.
I am a senior in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Eastern Michigan University, and I have been tutoring for about five years, from middle school to early college age students. My hobbies are painting/drawing, playing piano and guitar, and playing with my pet rats and my cat!
I am always prepared to demonstrate multiple strategies for solving difficult problems. I look forward to helping your student reach their greatest potential!
I am a second year student pursuing a BSE in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan. I have tutored students of various ages, and my main concern as a tutor is to make sure that the student feels comfortable asking any sort of question and that they always leave the session feeling optimistic rather than defeated. I am a math and science nerd, and while I am very capable of helping in a variety of subjects including English and Spanish, I would much refer to help you solve a difficult math or chemistry problem. I also love helping students prep for the SAT or ACT, as I was once the kids who was obsessed with boosting my score and am happy to teach my techniques to others. I am a very sociable person and outside of academia I love to entertain myself by hanging with my friends, watching sports and binge-ing tv series, blasting rap music, or even talking about conspiracy theories. I know what it is like to feel stuck and like you are incapable of succeeding, but I am a firm believer that if you try hard enough, you can always achieve those seemingly impossible goals, and I am here to help you do just that.
I'm your girl! I majored in Biochemistry at the University of Michigan and am looking to help any students in need of assistance.
I am currently a pre-candidate in a chemistry doctoral program at the Univeristy of Michigan, receiving my Bachelor's of Science in chemistry from Truman State University. Having completed many science and math courses in my academic career, I understand how daunting such courses can be. With that in mind, I make it a personal goal to provide students that I instruct with tools to help them understand complex material and to also personalize material so that they are engaged in the subject matter (especially in the areas of math and science). Each student has a different learning style and it is important to help students find theirs so that they may become confident and, more importantly, independent. It is my belief that good tutors "teach themselves out of a job" as we should help students learn how to tackle hard concepts with their own skill-set and in so-doing students become less reliant on tutors. I have tutored for 3 years at the undergraduate level and taught swimming lessons for ages 3-18 for 7 years. Through these experiences I have garnered an immense passion for assisting others and I cannot wait to continue with this passion with you!
I am an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, and am pursuing a dual degree in Movement Science and Biopsychology, Cognition and Neuroscience. I hope to go to medical school and become a physician in the future. I have had previous experience working with young kids at daycares, and I love helping others.
I am currently a biology, health, and society major at the University of Michigan.
I am a junior studying chemical engineering at the University of Michigan. I have experience with preparing for and taking the ACT and SAT, as well as expertise in a variety of high school-level subjects. I am an easygoing person with a lot of patience, and I have experience tutoring peers from my high school, as well as my younger sister. I love helping people understand new concepts and I strive to make material interesting to students, as I believe a vested interest in material can drastically improve a student's understanding and performance.
I am a PhD student in engineering at University of Michigan. I have been tutoring math and sciences for over six years. I like to use real world examples and problems to simplify different concepts.
I am able to tutor most core academic subjects. However, I have a special love for language - particularly literacy skills and writing. I am currently back in graduate school studying speech-language pathology.
I'm hoping to be your next tutor! I've worked with kids of all ages and know that every one has a unique learning style and requires patience and attention. I look forward to working with you or your child to meet their goals
I am a senior at the University of Michigan, in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts pursuing a B.S. in Biochemistry. As a student, I have a well-rounded academic history with interest in a range of different subject areas including: history, English, writing, math, science, and computer skills. My goal as a tutor is to help you learn the material and have some fun while doing it. As such, I am flexible with schedules and platforms (online vs in-person) and am available Monday-Friday afternoon/ evenings and possibly some weekend times upon request\*. Furthermore, I am also flexible with content/styles of sessions and can change the focus or style (ie: content review, homework help, general conceptual lectures, etc) accordingly to meet individual needs. Outside of academia I enjoy camping, hiking, reading (books and science papers), playing video games, and watching sports (basketball and football). I also have experience in assisting people with "mental blocks", testing anxiety, and related feelings of academic failure. I am open to sharing both my personal experience through my academic journey as well as hearing yours and offering advice if so desired. At the end of the day, I love to learn and it brings me happiness to be able to help others have that same feeling of success in academics. Whether you need more lecturing, problem solving help, mentoring, etc. I will do my best to cater to your specific learning needs. I look forward to working with you!
I am a graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in English. During my time at Denison, I served as a consultant in the Writing Center, where I worked with my peers on papers for all subject areas. I also competed on the Moot Court team. Since graduation, I have served as a coach and mentor in many different capacities: for three years, I served as a assistant director of a nonprofit where I regularly trained 75 different community leaders to effectively communicate on local issues, and for the past five years, I've served as the coordinator for New Moon Girl Media's Sister to Sister mentor program, where I work with high school and middle school aged girls on blog posts and other writing. Currently, I teach writing as a camp counselor at Thurber House Literary Center and I will soon be serving as a GTA through the Helen Zell Writers' Program at the University of Michigan.
I am currently a freshman studying business at the University of Michigan. I love Ann Arbor, but my first home is Chicago! I enjoy a lot of subjects but my favorites are economics and math, and more recently I have enjoyed programming. I hope I can help you to the best of my ability!
I'm a student at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor pursuing a major in finance and a minor in mathematics. During the summer of 2017, I suffered a serious knee injury that ended my dreams of playing college basketball; consequently, I shifted my focus from basketball to getting into some of the top institutions in the country. This is something my parents, who are both immigrants with PHD's, always wanted for me and thus, I spent the rest of the summer after my surgery self-studying for the SAT and ultimately improved my score by 200 points (scoring in the 99th percentile for Math). I also succeeded at getting into my dream school, the University of Michigan.

Whether your student attends a public, charter, or private school, we can match them with personalized instruction tailored to their specific coursework.
Michigan's M-STEP assessments and high school standards require strong foundational skills in math, reading, and science. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction helps students master these standards at their own pace, filling specific knowledge gaps that larger classroom settings—with Ann Arbor's 13.2:1 student-teacher ratio—may not address individually. Tutors focus on the exact concepts your student is struggling with, building confidence and competency in state-required content areas.
Your first session is an assessment and planning meeting. The tutor will discuss your student's current coursework, specific challenges, learning style, and goals—whether that's improving grades, preparing for AP exams, or strengthening fundamentals. They'll outline a personalized plan and explain how sessions will be structured to address your student's needs. Most families find this initial conversation clarifies exactly where to focus effort.
Ann Arbor students frequently seek help with algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus as math concepts become more abstract, as well as chemistry and biology as science coursework increases in rigor. English composition, AP exam preparation, and foreign language proficiency are also common areas where personalized instruction makes a measurable difference. The specific subjects depend on your student's grade level and academic path, which we discuss during the initial connection.
Pricing varies based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions—there's no one-size-fits-all cost. We work with families to find a tutoring plan that fits their budget and their student's needs, whether that's weekly sessions or intensive test prep. Contact us to discuss your situation, and we'll provide transparent pricing for the specific support your student needs.
Varsity Tutors connects students with subject-matter experts—many with advanced degrees, teaching credentials, or specialized expertise in their field. Tutors are vetted for their knowledge and teaching ability, ensuring they can explain complex concepts clearly and adapt instruction to each student's learning style. Whether your student needs help with Michigan state standards or advanced AP coursework, tutors have the expertise to guide them effectively.
Progress shows up in multiple ways: improved grades on assignments and tests, stronger performance on M-STEP assessments, increased confidence in class participation, and a clearer understanding of previously difficult concepts. Most families notice changes within 3-4 weeks of consistent sessions. Your tutor will also provide regular feedback on your student's progress and adjust the approach as needed to keep moving toward your goals.
Start by telling us about your student's needs—their grade level, subject areas, current challenges, and goals. We'll match them with a tutor who fits their learning style and academic needs, and you'll have a personalized tutoring plan in place quickly. Most families connect with a tutor within a few days, so your student can begin making progress right away.
