I am an incoming honors mathematics major at the University of Notre Dame. I've tutored students in middle school math, SAT reading/writing/math, and college physics. Coming from a larger family, I always had a support system of older siblings that were there if I had any questions about school. Now, I hope to be that person for any student looking for help, whether that student's questions arise from learning for school or for fun. My favorite subject to teach is SAT prep; I improved my score quite a bit with studying, so I know it's possible for you too! I'm also a firm believer in "brain breaks" within studying to give a couple minutes of mental stimulation before and after plunging into tougher material. Outside of my education, I use any spare time I can find to run for track (400m/800m) and play board games with family and friends.

I have a strong commitment to fostering love of learning, and believe that I have the tools to help any student learn. If something does not work one way, I will find another way so that the student feels empowered, able, and successful, every time. I have taught in traditional classroom settings, as well as one-on-one in person, and by Zoom. I enjoy getting to know my students personally, the more diverse the better, as I feel I learn just as much from my students as they learn from me. I possess good communication skills, and have great patience especially when identifying challenging tasks. I am committed to creating a positive and encouraging learning environment. I will never reprimand or make my student feel anything but supported, and my wish is to help my student improve in their academic performance, but also to foster a lifelong love of learning in them. I hope to have the privilege of passing along my knowledge to open and curious minds, as well as helping those who struggle feel more confident and able on their educational journey.
I am a lifelong learner, teacher, and researcher in the field of physics. I received a PhD in Physics from the University of Michigan and a BS in Physics from Rice University. I have four years of physics teaching experience at the University of Michigan, primarily undergraduate laboratory courses with an emphasis on electromagnetism, circuits, waves, optics, and real-world applications of these and other physical phenomena. Many of these courses, including one I helped design, focused on helping non-STEM students master physics concepts that may be difficult to grasp in a standard classroom setting. I have tutored in a variety of subjects since high school, but most recently I have spent several years helping students understand concepts and succeed in coursework throughout a large variety of college-level physics topics, from basic mechanics to advanced electrodynamics and special relativity.
I am passionate about children's education and excited to help students learn!
I am a PhD student at the University of Michigan, studying social psychology. Before this, I was at Duke University completing a BS in psychology as well as a MS in global health. My research combines the fields of global health and psychology by examining the effects of culture on self-related psychological processes. I hope to continue in academia to become a professor of psychology, as teaching is among my greatest passions.
I am a current sophomore at Yale University, studying Environmental Engineering and Global Affairs. I spent four years tutoring K-12 students in reading and math, and I believe in the importance of appreciating the process of learning and mastering concepts.
I am a senior at Yale University studying English. I have 5+ years experience tutoring high school/middle school students in writing, college essay editing, Common App advising, AP English, and ACT! My students have earned acceptances to Brown, Duke, Cornell, Vanderbilt, and the University of Michigan.
I am a secondary education teacher with a certification in Biology and Chemistry. I also completed my Masters in the Arts of Teaching degree at Wayne State University. I have a great passion for teaching and motivating students of all abilities to help them succeed in school and reach their full potential.
I am currently working towards my MD/PhD degree at Michigan Medical School.
I am a former high school STEM teacher with a passion for teaching, certified in Secondary Math and Biology. I LOVE math and science, and what they tell us about the world. As a teacher in Detroit, I've worked with students of all ability levels and learning styles, so I have a lot of strategies in my tool belt for tackling difficult concepts. My style as a tutor is to be patient, positive and encouraging. I tend to develop strong relationships with students as a mentor.
I am really excited to become a tutor at Varsity Tutors. Currently, I am retired from a career in accounting. I have a master degree in accounting from University of Texas (Arlington), a master degree in education from Harvard University and a Bachelor degree in Psychology from National Taiwan University. I was born and raised in Taiwan but have lived in the U.S. for almost 34 years.
I am looking to enrich the minds of those around me for the betterment of society. I want to pass on knowledge gained from both my educational and work experience to students at various levels. I am excited to prepare these students to be the innovators and creators of the future!
I am a graduate of The University of Michigan and The University of Pennsylvania (The Wharton School). I received my undergraduate degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering with a minor in history. Also, I recently graduated with an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania (The Wharton School).
I am committed to helping students acquire skills necessary for life-long learning. I prize education as an occasion for student development, discussion, and the refinement of communicative and analytical skills. I enjoy my role as a tutor and I anticipate increasing fulfillment as the scope and depth of my skills are expanded and refined.
I am passionate about helping students. I believe that we all are learners and teachers. all of us are readers and writers. I have the ability to share my passion for learning with others, and one of my greatest strengths is building relationships with students which is the corner stone to successful learning and teaching. I believe that there are no bad kids or bad students, it's just that we all have different paths and ways of learning, we all have a different pace. As a teacher i strive to acknowledge that and find ways to support all students, adapting to their needs and paths, meeting them where they are at. It is my job to believe in every single student and help them believe in themselves. When I am not teaching or engaging with students, I like to read, walk, hike, travel, explore, work out, watch my favorite shows. I enjoy playing and watching ice hockey, and I try to go home to visit my family in Italy once a year.
I am a sophomore at Yale University studying Mechanical Engineering, and I live in Detroit, Michigan. I specialize in physics and math, especially different levels of calculus.
I am in the 8-year direct med program at Virginia Commonwealth University. I plan to receive a major in Bioinformatics and a minor in Mathematics. I have a plethora of experience tutoring elementary school students in math and reading as well as high school students in AP Chemistry, ACT, and college admission essays. I am most passionate about helping students learn content, tips, and tricks needed for them to excel on the ACT as well as about helping kids establish a strong foundation for their pre-algebra skills. I hope I have the opportunity to get to know all of you and help you succeed in your endeavors!
I am a current medical student at the University of Michigan Medical School. I studied biology, business and Spanish at the University of Alabama, graduating summa cum laude. During college, I worked as a tutor with a tutoring company similar to Varsity Tutors where I taught college/high school/middle school Spanish, Chemistry, English, Biology, and Math. I also worked as an English as a Second Language volunteer instructor for 3 years during college and was an English Teaching Assistant at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin, Colombia.
I'm a premedical student at Cornell University with extensive experience tutoring students, especially in chemistry at the high school and undergraduate level, writing at the high school and undergraduate level, and SAT/ACT prep.
I am a rising sophomore at The Pennsylvania State University studying mechanical engineering with a minor in engineering mechanics. I have worked with grades 1-8 in educational settings such as The Robot Garage and FIRST Technical Challenge. I am passionate about helping other students because I enjoy helping them achieve that "aha" moment and seeing them grow. I am tutoring a variety of mathematics courses. I enjoy tutoring mathematics since it has always been one of my favorite subjects.
I am available to tutor a range of middle school and high school subjects, but I am most excited about tutoring test prep. I remember how stressful preparing for college can be and I am eager to do my part in helping students fulfill their college goals. I believe that learning is a collaborative process and I am committed to being as actively involved in the student's learning as I can. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, going to the movies (I try to see each Oscar nominee before the ceremony every year.), and am a huge Michigan sports fan.
I am an excellent resource for students of all ages!
I am a current undergraduate at the University of Michigan. I am a Biochemistry major and Philosophy minor, with years of experience tutoring students. Through high school, I tutored kids in the ACT, math, science, literature, and debate. My favorite subject to tutor is Chemistry, as I have taken Chemistry Honors, AP Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry(1 and 2). I believe that tutoring is a two way street, with the student learning about the material, but the teacher learning about how the student interacts with the material. Due to this, I am a very hands-on tutor who is always available for a text/call outside of class. Outside of academia, I am a singer and have been for 13 years now - a choir singer for 7 years and now in a premier acapella group at the University of Michigan.
I am a huge fan of film, theater, art, music, architecture and literature. I have also been collecting antiques, stamps, comic books, bottles and seashells for over thirty years.
I'm well-versed in teaching students with a wide range of skills and learning styles. I graduated with Honors from Santa Clara University where I received my Bachelor of Arts in English with a specialization in Teaching English. In May 2015, I will graduate with my Masters in Educational Studies from the University of Michigan. I am passionate about teaching students to become critical readers and writers who use their communication skills to reach their goals and connect with others. I have over seven years of tutoring experience and have tutored students in reading and writing from middle school to the graduate level.
I'm a college student attending the University of Michigan and I'm majoring in chemistry and computer science. I have two years of extensive experience tutoring high schoolers in chemistry and all subjects of the SAT and ACT. I can also say that I understand completely how difficult the process of test prep and high school chemistry can be because I recently survived the whole process myself having taken IB chem and the ACT/SAT in the last 1-2 years and studying and prepping extensively for them. That being said, I'm always super eager not just to tutor students in those subjects, but also to offer the best advice and guidance I can in tackling those challenges as a high schooler and as someone planning for college. I believe it's super important as a tutor not just to spoon-feed answers but to teach how to problem-solve, so I take care to solidify our understanding of the methods to approach a problem. Most of all, I try to be as flexible and communicative as possible.
I'm a doctoral candidate at Princeton University in the German department, where I've taught German language, literature and philosophy since 2008 and regularly received the highest scores for student satisfaction on my teaching evaluations. I majored in Biology and German as an undergraduate at the University of Michigan. I believe it is a teacher or tutor's responsibility to determine a student's individual learning style and tailor her lessons accordingly. I do a brief interview with each client to ascertain whether he or she is a visual, auditory or combination learner and teach with these results in mind. I look forward to working with you to achieve your academic goals!
I am a learner for life and I love sharing my knowledge with others. I have tutored middle-school students for one year and university students for two years. My focus is mainly on mathematics, chemistry, and related fields. I have degrees in both mathematics and biomedical engineering so I cover a lot of ground in the physiological sciences, computer programming, and statistics as well. Taking tests is one of my strong points and I have some killer strategies to share!
I am a patient, intellectual, and calm college student at the University of Michigan passionate about tutoring others to improve their proficiency in a wide variety of subjects. I teach students by creating individualized plans that cater to the strengths and weaknesses of the student. I work hard and as long as it takes to ensure that the student derives maximum benefit. I love teaching a wide variety of subjects, and have a speciality in standardized tests.
I am currently a student at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. I am working on my third year in the Bachelors of Business Administration program. Throughout my time in both college and high school I have experienced the frustration and pains of students, whether it be myself or my friends. I have always helped my friends with the subjects they struggled with (Calculus, ACT science, Economics, etc.) because I want to see them succeed. I decided to become a tutor to help others succeed as well. I teach ACT, SAT, Statistics, Economics, Business, Math, English, Environment Science, Reading, Writing, and Essay Editing. I especially enjoy teaching Essay Editing, Reading, and Writing because there is more flexibility and opportunity to add your own style into these subjects. Outside of school I enjoy playing tennis, working out, DJing and cooking.
I am very excited to be a part of Varsity Tutors because it is my belief that everyone has the capability to succeed in school, even if they need a little extra help to get there. Quality education is absolutely essential in making sure a child is prepared for their future career. I love working with students and seeing them triumph over areas they were once struggling with.
I am a undergraduate freshman of the University of Michigan, studying business at the Ross School of Business. Working together with students and having a good time while seeing steady improvements has proven to provide me great joy. I believe that communication and relationship building is crucial for students to open up about their struggles and also for me to identify problems they don't realize they can improve on, so this is a key aspect of all of my lessons. During my free time, I enjoy playing sports or snacking on desserts while binge-watching Friends!
I am looking for opportunities to share problem solving experience with passionate students looking to overcome hurdles in math and science. In addition, as a recent graduate, I would like to help students picking and applying to colleges improve their SAT scores and maximize their chance for future success.
I'm a fourth year medical student in Michigan and an avid learner. I have years of tutoring and mentoring experience from high school and undergrad. My expertise lies in the sciences, as well as standardized exams such as ACT and MCAT. I can also help students with essay writing, whether for English classes or for college/graduate school applications. Often students get perplexed by complex ideas that can often be broken down into much simpler parts. I am here to help with that. Everyone has different ways of learning and through my experience, I've learned how to work with that for the benefit of the student.
I am a recent graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I received my Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science and am currently applying to medical school. During college, I enjoyed tutoring children through a program called the Detroit Education Society, where I developed a passion for teaching the underserved, helping to bridge the education gaps between communities. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Math, Science, and English. I focus on teaching the fundamentals and inspiring students to love what they learn. In my spare time, I enjoy playing basketball, reading books, and hanging out with my friends.
I am an artist and journalist from Ann Arbor, MI attending Harvard College in Cambridge, MA. I'm excited to work with students in my area and online.
I am also very passionate about helping students through the college application process. As a first-generation college student, my commitment to education stems from my personal understanding of how much a quality, supported education has improved my own life. When I'm not teaching, you'll find me painting, training for a race, or exploring France with my friends.
I am a rising Junior computer science major, biochemistry minor at Carleton College. I remember how important asking for help was when I was studying for exams and would love to assist students going through the same process. Although I am knowledgeable in many subjects, I am most equipped tutoring in college and high school-level computer science, college and high school-level biology, and SAT prep. During high school, I tutored my classmates in preparation for the SAT, and have two years of experience tutoring college students in computer science courses. I learn best when I understand the practicality and relevance of the material, and hope to instill those concepts in my lessons.
I am a working communications professional, dedicated to helping you achieve academic success in the subjects of English and writing. I take a personalized approach to working with each student, understanding your needs and goals and helping grow your targeted skills to reach (or exceed!) these goals. Let's do this!

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Holland's 6 school districts with personalized tutoring. Whether your student attends school in Holland Public Schools, West Ottawa, Zeeland, Hamilton, Saugatuck, or other local districts, we can match them with a tutor who understands Michigan's educational standards and local curriculum expectations.
Michigan's M-STEP assessments and grade-level standards require students to master specific competencies in math, English language arts, science, and social studies. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows tutors to target your student's specific learning gaps and reinforce concepts aligned with Michigan standards at their own pace—something that's harder to achieve in classrooms with the 14.9:1 student-teacher ratio typical in Holland schools.
During the initial session, the tutor will assess your student's current understanding, learning style, and specific challenges—whether that's struggling with algebra, preparing for the SAT, or catching up in a core subject. This diagnostic approach helps the tutor create a personalized plan that addresses your student's unique needs and goals, rather than following a one-size-fits-all curriculum.
Holland students frequently seek help in math (especially algebra and geometry), English language arts and writing, science (biology and chemistry), and standardized test preparation. We also work with students on foundational reading skills, study habits, and executive functioning—areas that significantly impact success across all subjects in Holland's schools.
Tutoring costs vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions—we work with families to find an arrangement that fits their needs. Many Holland families find that even one or two sessions per week can make a meaningful difference in their student's confidence and grades, so you can start small and adjust as needed.
Absolutely. Tutors work with Holland students on M-STEP preparation, ACT readiness (national average ~21), SAT prep (national average ~1050), and AP exams. Personalized instruction is especially effective for test prep because tutors can focus on your student's specific weak areas rather than covering material they've already mastered.
We consider your student's subject needs, learning style, grade level, and goals when connecting them with a tutor. If the match isn't working after a session or two, we can connect your student with someone else—the goal is finding a tutor who understands how your student learns best and can build their confidence.
Most families can get matched with a tutor and schedule a first session within a few days. Whether your student needs immediate help before an exam or wants to build stronger foundations throughout the school year, we work to connect you with someone available to meet your timeline.
