I am an undergraduate at Washington University, and I grew up in Columbus, Ohio. Math has always been one of my favorite subjects. I love Pre-algebra, Calculus, Linear Algebra and everything in between! I have tutored for about four years and have worked with students of all ages. Most students come to me for Math, but I have also worked with students on SAT and ACT test prep, Statistics and Physics. Everyone learns in a slightly different way, and I love figuring out the best way to teach something to people individually and dig down to what questions they really need to have answered to understand the material. In my spare time, I like to go on long bike rides and explore St. Louis's restaurants. I also love baking, playing with dogs and cats, watching movies with my friends and playing soccer.

I'm tutoring to ask clarifying questions . I really enjoy taking seemingly difficult topics and explaining them in a logical fashion while emphasizing the basics every step of the way. I find that students' frustration with a concept generally stems from uncertainty regarding how to organize many intersecting ideas. Nothing makes me more proud then watching a student master a formerly daunting topic.

I am a high school graduate from The Pembroke Hill School in Kansas City, Missouri and currently studying at Washington University in St. Louis in the class of 2024. Through my high school's Spanish program, I tutored students just two years below my level of Spanish. And through our debate program, for my sophomore, junior, and senior years, I mentored students new to the activity. I have always seen helping other students as an opportunity of growth, not only for that student, but for myself as well. I feel that I am qualified to tutor all middle and most high school levels of math, chemistry, and Spanish. As for standardized tests, I am most oriented towards the ACT. My favorite subject to learn and tutor is Math because it allows the student an opportunity to understand a concept much deeper than the surface. And that is my focus for when I learn a concept or teach a concept: understanding not only the what but the how and why as well.

I am originally from the suburbs of St. Louis, MO, and I attended Rockhurst University for my undergraduate degree. I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in French & Education with a minor in English Literature. I am also currently working towards a Master of Arts in French at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. I am certified to teach French K-12 in the state of Missouri (and have the qualifications for Kansas). I enjoyed teaching at both the middle school and the high school level as part of my training. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored both writing and French. I am now substitute teaching at a French immersion school in the area, and I had fun teaching grades 2nd and 5th there over the summer. I am available to tutor English grammar, literature, writing, math up to Algebra 1, all levels of French, and test prep (including ACT). As someone with an appreciation for languages, I especially like tutoring English and French. Since I am a certified teacher, I am prepared to present information in a variety of ways to help my students with understanding. Additionally, I like to help my students take responsibility for their own learning during our sessions. Aside from teaching, I enjoy spending time with my roommates and our animals, watching shows and movies, going to sporting events, and taking advantage of the nice weather outdoors.

I am a certified English teacher and Principal in the State of Missouri. I believe that students are under more pressure than ever to succeed in school. However, due to the ever increasing class sizes that some of the best schools are experiencing students are not able to receive the personal attention that some of them need to be at their best. That is why tutoring can be so valuable. I am able to work one on one with a student which allows me to devote all my time to helping them with their particular problems. I am able to help students understand what it is they are being asked to do, assist them in accomplishing it and finally, provide them the ability to recall the information for future use.

I am a graduate of Rockhurst University where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a minor in English Literature. Upon graduating, I became certified to teach both elementary education (grades 1-6) and English Language Arts (grades 5-9) in the state of Missouri. I have spent the past two years teaching seventh grade reading and writing, and I have loved every minute of it! Not only do I love helping my students understand new concepts in my subject areas, but I also really enjoy sharing literature, both classics and new fiction, with them in hopes it will foster a love of reading. I believe in the power of literature to spark critical thinking and help students make meaningful connections to their lives and the lives of others. It may come as no surprise that one of my chief hobbies is reading; I try to read fifty new novels every year, many of which I can then recommend to my students! I tutor a broad range of subjects, most notably English, Literature, and ACT/SAT Test Preparations, but regardless of what I am tutoring, my teaching philosophy and style stems from building relationships with my students. While I have a great innate desire to help the next generation learn and succeed, I realize that the first step to doing so is getting to know my students and their individual needs. Only then can I create truly meaningful, relevant, and applicable lessons and tutoring sessions that will help them learn and grow. My passion is to help students realize their potential as life-long learners and help them succeed as they navigate their educational paths.

I am currently working towards an Aerospace Engineering degree at the University of Colorado, Boulder. In high school, I worked with 5th grade students tutoring math. Beyond that, I was always avaliable to help my classmates learn topics that I may have understood better at the time. Overall, math and science courses are my favorite to help people with because I enjoy those courses myself and think the knowledge is not hard to learn if given the right teacher and enough time. In teaching, I like to understand the level of comprehension the student has first before just going in and telling them what he/she should do. It is more effective to learn how to teach yourself the knowledge than to just be able to regurgitate it onto a test. Other than academics, I like playing basketball, video games, and just hanging out and messing around with friends.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Lee's Summit's 29 schools with expert tutors. Whether your student attends a school in the Lee's Summit R-7 School District or nearby areas, we can match them with a tutor who understands the local curriculum and Missouri academic standards.

Lee's Summit students frequently seek help with algebra, geometry, and ACT/SAT prep—subjects that are critical for college readiness in Missouri. We also work with many students on reading comprehension, writing skills, and science courses like chemistry and biology. The specific subjects depend on each student's grade level and goals, and tutors can tailor instruction to address individual learning gaps.

Your first session is an opportunity for the tutor to understand your student's current level, learning style, and specific challenges. The tutor will ask about areas where your student struggles, review recent assignments or test scores, and outline a personalized plan aligned with their school's curriculum and Missouri standards. This foundation helps ensure every future session is focused and productive.

Even with Lee's Summit's favorable average student-teacher ratio, classroom teachers manage diverse learning needs across many students. Personalized 1-on-1 tutoring fills that gap by providing focused attention on your student's specific struggles—whether it's a particular math concept, writing technique, or test-taking strategy. This targeted support helps students catch up quickly and build confidence in their coursework.

Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who understand Missouri's academic standards and how they're taught in Lee's Summit schools. Tutors can help students master grade-level expectations in math, language arts, science, and social studies while building the critical thinking and problem-solving skills Missouri assessments emphasize. This alignment ensures tutoring directly supports what students are learning in class.

Yes, Varsity Tutors works with families to find tutoring solutions that fit their budget and schedule. Rates vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions. We recommend discussing your needs and budget when you connect with us—we can help you find a tutoring plan that works for your family.

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects high school students with tutors who specialize in ACT and SAT preparation. Whether your student needs help with specific sections like math and reading, test-taking strategies, or full-length practice and review, tutors can create a personalized prep plan. Many Lee's Summit students benefit from starting prep in junior year to maximize their score potential.

Getting started is simple—tell us about your student's grade level, subject needs, and learning goals. Varsity Tutors will match them with an expert tutor who fits their needs, and you can schedule your first session at a time that works for your family.
