Hi! I am a graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a B.S. in Molecular Biology and a minor in Psychology. During my undergraduate years, I worked as a learning assistant for Physics 1 and 2 labs, guided fellow premedical students, and prepared for the MCAT. After graduation, I pursued a Fulbright fellowship in Norway, where I conducted neuroscience research and engaged with a diverse student community. I now work on a neurotrauma unit, further deepening my understanding of medicine and patient care. I am passionate about teaching and mentorship, whether in the classroom, as a Bollywood dance captain, or even in the middle of a Norwegian fjord! My tutoring focuses on critical thinking and the natural sciences, helping students excel in school, on the SAT, and on the MCAT.

I'm a first-year med student at Pitt Med. I graduated from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts with a BS in Biology this past May. As much as I love medicine and the hard sciences, most of my tutoring experience is in general ACT prep, in addition to academic and creative writing, middle school math and reading, and high school and college math. Some of my favorite all-time classes were medical sociology in college and AP US Government and Politics in high school. Through Tufts, I taught English as a second language (3 semesters) and citizenship exam prep (1 semester) to Hispanic immigrants and refugees, which taught me a lot about how to gauge students' understanding, teach tough subjects, plan activities, provide flashcards and the best possible study materials, and make the most of the students' time. I love tutoring because I know how much a tutor's patience one-on-one can make the difference. I love sharing my study tips and test-taking strategies so they can study efficiently and make the best use of their time to get that desired result. I want students to feel heard and supported and help them find methods best suited to them. I want to help students enjoy learning and find more confidence in themselves through mastering tough subject matter.

I specialize in mathematics, particularly at the high school level, and I also have experience tutoring other subjects. I also have done SAT prep for the mathematics section of the New SAT and am very familiar with the recent changes to the exam. My belief is that everyone is capable of learning with enough time, explanation, and practice, and I hope to pass this on to all the students I work with. For this reason, I believe in teaching students how to think and problem solve, rather than just having them memorize patterns or facts.

I am a college instructor with ten years experience in the classroom as a teacher and tutor. Originally from South Carolina, I went to school in Pennsylvania and currently live in Alabama. I believe that students learn best through practice and approaching learning through a relaxed lens, thinking about the larger, structural questions behind their concerns in order to gain a broader and more inclusive understanding of the subject matter. My tutoring philosophy stems from the belief that students and tutors are peers, and that collaboration is the best means for students to learn, not just reciting or memorizing what I might suggest. Working together, and making sure students take ownership and pride in their work, leads to a stronger educational foundation, both in our tutoring sessions and the student's future.

I have seen too many people think that math is not for them, but I thoroughly believe it can be accessible for everyone with the right help and understanding. I have tutored friends, family, and peers for the past nine years and have developed an appreciation for creative teaching from experiencing so many different learning styles. Calculus is my favorite discipline within math, and I very much enjoy providing specialized tutoring to support success in standardized tests such as the SAT and GMAT. I'm a recent college graduate living in West Philadelphia. I graduated from Oberlin College in May of 2015, where I majored in Environmental Studies and minored in Politics. I love to play music, dance, make art and play basketball with my friends. I'm passionate about youth education and mentoring and I think everyone deserves the opportunity for a quality education. I have been tutor with Varsity Tutors for over a year, and volunteered as a tutor with the National Honor Society and Let's Get Ready - an organization that offers free SAT-prep for underserved youth. I love to tutor in social studies, humanities, and life sciences, and have a lot of experience in tutoring for AP and SAT tests. My basic outlook on education is that 1. Everyone is intelligent and capable of learning 2. People have diverse interests and passions 3. Everyone learns in a unique way. If we spend our time following our passions and figuring out what learning style works best for us, than our education can be transformative. One of the primary problems of our education system is the lack of individualized learning time, and personal relationship building between teacher and student. I think we tend to use a one size fits all approach with education because our schools and teachers don't have the time or resources to respond to the needs of every student. I believe that 1-on-1 tutoring, mentoring and education is essential for developing learning practices that are effective for you. I'm excited to work with you!

I'm just not very good at it." People tend to not be very excited about topics that they don't understand. Teachers and grades have been making them feel bad whenever they come to class, and there is nothing more frustrating than studying for hours and still not getting any concept. These sorts of things can make someone feel defeated or unintelligent. To that end, the simplest way to get a student to become excited about learning is to counteract these negative effects with healthier, positive learning strategies. When students seriously get something, don't move on immediately to the next topic, but instead dwell on what they get for a while, solidifying it and making them feel intelligent and like future concepts are within their grasp. Build pride in each student for the progress and work they complete so that they are eager to master each concept. In addition, to get students more engaged in topics, I try to emphasize the real-world applications of anything I teach. As an applied mathematics major, I can appreciate more than most how the subjects people study can affect the real world. So when students groan "When am I ever going to have to use this?" I can actually give a satisfying answer that will make them realize how powerful what they learn really is. This tends to make students less dismissive and care a lot more about the concepts at hand. While I can't promise that these methods will make a student love their school subjects as much as sports or video games, they tend to make them appreciate and care about the material as well as feel validated by it. In turn, this leads to a much more serious and sustained effort and enjoyment of the subject.

Hi! My name is Harry, and I'm a sophomore at the Albert Dorman Honors College at NJIT studying for a BA/MD in Biology on the accelerated program with NJMS. I've been interested in the sciences since I was younger, through which I have enjoyed engaging in my coursework, research, and fellow peers. What I particularly enjoy is the camaraderie that STEM brings about with problem solving with you and your peers, which I hope to foster through tutoring. At NJIT, I have taken challenging courses like General and Organic Chemistry I & II, Physics I & II, and a series of biology courses such as neuroscience, mammalian physiology, and cellular and molecular biology. These experiences not only provided me with a strong academic background but also with an understanding of how to deconstruct difficult material in a way that makes it less intimidating. In teaching, I believe building confidence is as important as mastery of content. I try to meet students where they're atwhether that's going step by step through a practice problem, connecting big-picture ideas, or offering suggestions on how to study more effectively. I recall how overwhelming some of these concepts can be because I've been there too. I try to make learning accessible and enjoyable, and also help students gain the level of mastery they're looking for. Whether you're preparing for an exam or just want extra assistance in biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, or test prep, I'd love to help you and guide you toward your goal.

Frequently Asked Questions

LSAT Logical Reasoning questions require you to identify argument structures, spot logical flaws, and evaluate evidence—all under strict time pressure. Many students struggle with distinguishing between similar answer choices, managing the pace of 35 minutes for 26 questions, and understanding the specific language the test uses to describe logical concepts. Working with a tutor helps you recognize patterns in question types and develop strategies to avoid the traps test makers intentionally build in.

Score improvement depends on your starting point and effort level, but most students see measurable gains within 4-8 weeks of focused practice. If you're currently scoring in the mid-range, jumping 5-10 points is realistic with targeted instruction on question types you find most difficult. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors experienced in LSAT prep who can identify your specific weak areas—whether that's conditional logic, assumption questions, or flaw identification—and create a personalized study plan.

Effective pacing starts with understanding that not all questions take the same time—some argument structure questions are quicker than complex flaw questions. A tutor can teach you to quickly identify question types, skip strategically when stuck, and return to harder questions after completing easier ones. Practice with timed drills on specific question categories helps build speed without sacrificing accuracy, and many students find that understanding the underlying logic deeply actually makes them faster, not slower.

Your first session focuses on understanding where you currently stand. Expect to review a recent practice test or sample questions to identify patterns in the types of questions you find most challenging. Your tutor will also discuss your timeline, target score, and learning style so they can tailor future sessions to your needs. This diagnostic approach ensures your tutoring time is spent on the areas that will have the biggest impact on your score.

Practice tests are essential—they build test-day familiarity, reveal your weak areas, and help you develop realistic pacing strategies. The LSAT has released over 90 official practice tests, giving you plenty of material to work with. Most tutors recommend taking full practice tests every 1-2 weeks to track progress, then drilling specific question types between tests. This combination of full-length practice and targeted review is how students build both confidence and consistent accuracy.

Look for tutors who have scored well on the LSAT themselves (typically 160+) and have experience teaching the section specifically. They should understand the nuances of conditional logic, assumption questions, and flaw identification deeply enough to explain concepts multiple ways. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who have proven track records helping students improve their scores, and you can discuss their experience with students at your current level during your first session.

Most students preparing for the LSAT spend 3-4 months studying overall, with Logical Reasoning typically receiving 30-40% of that time since it makes up half the test. That translates to roughly 5-8 hours per week focused on this section. A tutor helps you use that time efficiently by targeting your specific weaknesses rather than practicing everything equally, which means you can see faster improvement than studying alone.

Test anxiety often stems from uncertainty about question formats or feeling unprepared for specific question types. When you work with a tutor to master the underlying logic and practice under timed conditions repeatedly, that familiarity builds genuine confidence. Many students find that understanding exactly what the test is asking and having a clear strategy for each question type significantly reduces anxiety on test day. Your tutor can also teach you techniques for managing stress during the actual exam.
