What will Chicago USMLE prep cover?

The USMLE, or United States Medical Licensing Exam, is technically three different exams, referred to as Steps. Step 1 will cover your understanding of the sciences behind medical practice. Step 2 will require you to complete two different sections, Clinical Knowledge and Clinical Skills, which are intended to assess your ability to communicate with and treat patients in a clinical setting. Step Three is the final hurdle you'll have to face on your path towards your medical license and lasts more than 10 hours split over two days. Step 1 only includes multiple-choice sections, but in Step 2 and Step 3 you'll be engaging with simulated cases that you'll have to address appropriately. Usually, you'll take Step 1 and Step 2 in your first four years of study, and Step 3 during your time as a graduate.

As you can imagine, there's a lot of ground to cover when preparing for a test like the USMLE, whether you're only a few years into your career as a medical student and are getting ready for Step 1, or are in postgraduate training and preparing for Step 3. Topics that the USMLE will test you on range from General Principles of Foundational Science and Biostatistics and Interpretation of Medical Literature to the Social Sciences, and the massive amount of information that you'll be expected to understand can be intimidating. However, Chicago USMLE prep can help you find your footing by guiding your study and building test-taking skills that may be specific to the USMLE Step that you're preparing to face.

How will a Chicago USMLE prep class help me get ready for the exam?

You have a few options when signing up for Chicago USMLE preparation: online courses, private instruction, or, if you find both appealing, you can even sign up for a mix of the two. Each type of prep offers advantages, but in either case, you'll receive instruction from a qualified teacher.

Should you opt for an online course, you'll interact with your teacher and your classmates in a virtual classroom, where you'll participate in collaborative activities and discussions. Working with other students can be a powerful tool, both in learning new information and strengthening your understanding of concepts you already have a grasp on. You'll be able to share your knowledge with your peers as well as learn from them reciprocally. So if you've already got a solid understanding of Behavioral Health, for example, your instructor may ask you to work with other students to help the class build a better understanding of the topic together. You'll get feedback and lessons from your instructor, and can request one-on-one time with them to go over any aspect of the USMLE that you feel you need to pay special attention to.

If working with a private tutor is more your speed, we can help you find a Chicago USMLE tutor. Private instruction allows for significantly more individual attention. Your instructor will be able to craft a lesson plan that takes your strengths, weaknesses, and learning style into account so you can study efficiently. You'll be able to study at your own pace, moving quickly through subject material that you're comfortable with and spending more time on areas that you feel unsure about. So, if you're taking Step 2 of the USMLE, and you feel good about your ability to answer the multiple-choice questions on the Clinical Knowledge section, but aren't sure about how to prepare for the patient cases you'll see in the Clinical Skills section, private instruction can home in on your concerns to ensure that you can feel confident when you're entering the testing center.
