Those who are looking for professional Dayton SSAT prep for their student can reach out to Varsity Tutors for help. The SSAT is an important entrance exam used by admission boards of private and independent schools to determine the eligibility of applicants. If you are trying to get your student into a private school, getting them professional SSAT help can improve their readiness for the exam.
The Secondary School Admissions Test has a few different levels depending on the grade of the student taking the test. Students who are going into the fourth and fifth grades will be administered the Elementary Level. Students going into the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades will be administered the Middle Level of the SSAT. Students going into high school will be administered the Upper Level of the SSAT.
What does the SSAT cover?
The SSAT has a Writing Sample, a Verbal section, a Reading section, and a Quantitative section. The sequence of the sections will not be the same on all levels. The Middle Level and the Upper Level of the SSAT will have two Quantitative sections, with each section having 25 questions. There will also be an Experimental section on all levels of the SSAT. However, the Experimental section will not be scored.
The Writing Sample will also not be scored. However, a copy of the essay will be sent to the schools the student is applying to. Students taking the Middle Level and Upper Level of the SSAT will be presented with two prompts and asked to write an essay based on either one of the prompts. Students taking the Elementary Level of the SSAT will be presented with a simple picture prompt. Students taking the Middle Level and Upper Level will have 25 minutes for the Writing Sample, while students taking the Elementary Level will have 15 minutes.
The Verbal section will touch upon skills such as basic language understanding (on the Elementary Level of the SSAT) and concepts such as synonyms and analogies (on the Middle Level and Upper Level of the SSAT). Students taking the Middle Level and Upper Level of the SSAT will have 30 minutes to complete 60 questions for this section, while students taking the Elementary Level will have 20 minutes to complete 30 questions.
The Reading section will measure reading comprehension skills. Students taking the Middle Level and Upper Level of the SSAT will have 40 minutes to complete 40 questions, while students taking the Elementary Level of the SSAT will have 30 minutes to complete 28 questions.
The Quantitative sections will test students on their math skills. Concepts such as basic addition and multiplication will be covered on the Elementary Level of the SSAT, while the Middle Level and Upper Level will touch upon more advanced topics, such as algebra (on the Middle Level and Upper Level) and properties of triangles (on the Upper Level). Students taking the Middle Level and Upper Level will have two Quantitative sections, and for both sections, they will have 30 minutes to complete 25 questions. Students taking the Elementary Level of the SSAT will have one Quantitative section, for which they will be given 30 minutes to complete 30 questions.
What kind of Dayton SSAT prep is available?
There are two options for students who are preparing for the SSAT. One option is enrolling them in a Dayton SSAT prep course. Setting aside a specific time to study together with other students can motivate students to excel in their studies. These courses take place over the internet, so there is no need to spend time commuting. They are administered by experienced educators.
There are two options if you want to enroll your student in a Dayton SSAT prep class. You can enroll them in a two-week class or a four-week class. If a student feels as if they need to spend more than two weeks reviewing the subjects that they need to know for the SSAT, they may benefit from signing up for the four-week class.
In a class, everyone will be striving towards the same goal, which can help students stay focused on getting ready for the SSAT. The instructor of the class can spark discussions that will encourage the students to come up with new ideas and insights into what they are studying. In addition, an experienced instructor can give students helpful test-taking advice.
Another option is connecting with a private Dayton SSAT tutor for your student. This way, they can study at a schedule that is even more flexible than what is possible when taking an online course. A private educational mentor can be available to answer many questions from the student. A class instructor can answer some questions from a student, but at a certain point, they will have to proceed with the curriculum of the class for the benefit of the other students. However, a private mentor will not have that limitation.
A private instructor can also work with your student to help them develop their test-taking skills. Since the SSAT will have time limits imposed on each section, it is important that students know how to pace themselves throughout the test. A private instructor can administer practice tests with questions and time limits that resemble what the student will encounter on the actual SSAT. This way, the student can get accustomed to answering questions under time pressure.
A third option is enrolling your student in an online class but getting them private educational mentoring as well. This way, your student can benefit from the group discussions that take place in a class and still have a chance to study with a private mentor.
Where can I go for Dayton SSAT prep?
If you are looking for professional Dayton SSAT preparation for your student, look no further than Varsity Tutors. Reach out to us if you want to enroll your student in the next online course (there is a new one starting every week) or you want to connect them with a private educational mentor.

I am currently a high school math teacher teaching Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. I have a passion for helping all students learn and understand math whether it's their least or most favorite subject. I believe all people can gain a strong understanding if shown different strategies to comprehend and complete problems. ... I would like to get to know the student. I believe the best teacher is one who truly knows his or her student. Not just their academic ability, but also their interests. This is crucial to explaining different topics when examples are needed that a student can relate to.
