Recent IB Information Technology in a Global Society SL Tutoring Session Notes
Went over the incorrect answers on graded work. Went over homework and effective strategies to use. Briefly discussed reading strategies and effective graphic organizers to help with reading comprehension.
The student and I went over her French work. She had some trouble with the vocabulary initially, but was quick to pick it up. She is doing very well with her conjugations in future tense, so we only covered the irregular verbs. I hope to practice more of the vocabulary with her next week since she usually seems to do well with practice.
Based on the student's PSAT scores, she is strongest on math, then reading, and needs the most work on writing. So we started by going over grammar basics and strategies for the writing section. We did the writing drills. Then we moved on to the reading section. We went through some strategies for the sentence completion portions of the reading section and did the drills for those.
The student had a great opportunity to bring up her Algebra 2 grade for the semester! We went over the test together - it was over graphing conic sections such as circles, ellipses, parabolas, and hyperbolas.
We worked on Math and Reading today. She has a very solid grasp of the Reading section. She understands how it works, and is mainly losing points on the Vocabulary. I've given her a list of common SAT words to work on between now and the test. I've also asked her to write a couple practice essays, so that we can work on how to maximize her points in that section.
Spent most of the time working on percents. Worked through basic equations involving percents first, and then story problems. Used roughly a quarter of the hour reviewing some additional analogies/vocabulary as well.
