If you choose to begin Tampa Latin tutoring, an academic mentor will support your studies and help you reach for your goals as a Latin learner. Your teacher can review the Latin concepts that challenge you most, helping you overcome your doubts with the language. Use this newfound knowledge to feel more confident in your Latin classes at school, prepare for an exam, or for personal use when studying Classical art and literature.

Your academic mentor only meets with one student at a time during private instruction. As the only student, you are the main focus of each session, and tutoring can be customized based on your needs, goals, and skill level. Whether your student is in middle school or majoring in Classics at a local university, they can thrive in the personalized environment created by Tampa Latin tutors. If you want to expand your Latin vocabulary, for example, your instructor can prioritize working on new terminology in each meeting. On the other hand, if you are seeking homework help specific to a class, your instructor can assist with studying for exams and reviewing the content of your assignments.

When you meet with an instructor, you are always being taught by a knowledgeable, professional teacher who is excited to help you learn Latin. Your instructor is a Latin expert who is prepared to answer any questions that you may have about the language. Have doubts about how to determine the inflections within a sentence? Ask your teacher to walk you through the process in more detail. Wants someone to double-check your translation of a popular Latin text before you turn it in? A private instructor is available to share their insight and discuss translations with you.

What scheduling options are available in Tampa Latin tutoring?

Depending on what works best for you, Tampa Latin tutoring can be conducted either online or in-person. Online meetings are especially convenient since you can access your instructor from any location with an internet connection. If you travel out of town, for example, you do not have to fall behind on your Latin studies. Choose the location where you work best to improve your productivity and feel more comfortable as you learn.

To meet with your instructor online, you will log into the Live Learning Platform. You can think of the platform as a digital classroom where you can meet with your academic mentor. Like a traditional classroom, the platform features tools that help you learn. Examples of useful features on the platform include a virtual whiteboard, a shared document editor, and integrated practice problems. Even though you are learning in an online environment, the Live Learning Platform is equipped with amenities that you are likely familiar with from your previous class experiences.

The Live Learning Platform aims to make learning engaging, minimize distractions, and help you get the most out of your efforts in a session. For example, you can use the session recording tool to save the content of a lesson ahead of time. Then, after the meeting is over, you can revisit the audio and visuals that your instructor provided to study additionally on your own time. Your instructor can use the virtual whiteboard to help you take notes or perfect your Latin spelling, and you can always see and hear your instructor when they use the video chat feature. Though you are not in a physical classroom with your teacher, you can still form a connection with them and the material thanks to the state of the art features in our platform.

Additionally, you can meet with your academic mentor in person. Your student can learn from their Tampa Latin tutor from your family's dining room table, for example, or in the library after school. Meet with your instructor at a local coffee shop or café, if you prefer a more public setting. Both online and in-person meetings provide you with individual attention from a knowledgeable teacher. By offering both formats, we provide you with as many options as possible for scheduling Latin tutoring at your convenience.

For further Latin help, we can also assist you with enrolling in an online class. Online classes are taught by knowledgeable instructors, just like private instruction—but classes connect you to a group of other learners in a virtual online classroom. You can use the tools on the platform to complete projects, lessons, and activities with your classmates. A variety of times are available, and classes are accessible from anywhere with an internet connection. Studying with Tampa Latin tutors and instructors, whether you opt for individual or class instruction, can improve your confidence in the language.

Recent Tampa Latin Tutoring Session Notes

Latin Tutoring review by Andrew in Tampa, FL
Today, we worked on preparing the student for his Latin exam. We spent much of the session working on translation, as a large portion of the test will consist of translating a passage from Latin. We worked through a pair of passages in his Latin textbook, going over difficulties as they arose. As with many students, I had to remind him a few times to make sure not to try to turn a noun in the accusative into the subject of the sentence, and to rely on grammar and endings rather than strictly on word order for translating into English. This basically led to me asking whether each verb was active or passive, which would then cause him to reconsider his translation after answering. The idea is for this process to become internalized, as failing to do so will leave a student never really coming to terms with learning Latin. After this, we did a bit of review of the forms of hic, haec, hoc as that will also be on the test.

Latin Tutoring review by Hannah in Tampa, FL
In our session, the student and I reviewed the comparison of adverbs and completed Exercise 25.1. For each adjective, he formed the corresponding positive, comparative, and superlative degree adverb. We briefly reviewed first, second, and third declension and how to find an adjective base. I explained how the three degrees of adverbs are formed from a given adjective's positive, comparative, and superlative degree forms. We also reviewed a chart for third declension and I asked him to copy this chart into his notebook. Now he has a chart for first, second, and third declension nouns to reference. To conclude our session, I quizzed him over the six noun cases, the three key attributes of nouns, the five key attributes of verbs, and the stem vowels for each of the four verb conjugations. He knows his noun cases and the three key attributes of nouns well. We will continue to work on verb parsing so he can begin to master that as well.

Latin Tutoring review by Hannah in Tampa, FL
The student and I began by reviewing the major grammar concepts we dealt with last session - clauses of fearing, impersonal verbs, gerunds, and gerundives. Translating gerundives of obligation was a bit of a challenge, but he became more comfortable with them after additional practice. We then discussed the content presented in the last two chapters of the book - datives of purpose and relatives with the subjunctive. We spent the remainder of our time reviewing the first half of the translation part of the student's homework. He mentioned that a big part of his midterm had been a sight translation with grammar questions, so we approached our review of this homework assignment as practice for his upcoming final. The student read each sentence aloud in Latin, broke down the grammatical structure, parsed verbs, and ultimately presented a translation. He firmly demonstrated his knowledge of newly introduced grammar constructions. He was thoroughly engaged during our session and was eager to practice translating even the most difficult sentences presented in the book.
