Oklahoma City Mandarin Chinese Tutoring FAQ

Since Chinese is widely considered one of the hardest languages to learn, it can be worth your while to contact Varsity Tutors to connect with an Oklahoma City Chinese tutor for you or a student in your family. Oklahoma City Chinese tutoring can assist learners of all ages and skill levels, so whether you are a beginner who needs to learn basics, a high school or college student hoping to extend their knowledge, or an advanced learner who needs to know the nuances of Chinese for business relationships, this skill-enriching service can help you work toward your goals.

How can an Oklahoma City Chinese tutor near me help me work towards fluency?

Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world, with more than a billion speakers. Although spoken by upwards of twenty percent of the world's population, it can be extremely difficult for non-native speakers to learn. This can be problematic for high school or college students learning it as a language requirement, for people learning to speak it for work, and for travelers alike. No matter what you or your student's goals are with the language, an Oklahoma City tutor can provide welcome support for those who wish to become fluent.

Chinese has very little in common with English, which makes it more complicated to learn than other languages. As you may already know, Chinese is a tonal language which dictates that the meaning of a word is dependent on how your voice rises and drops when making individual sounds. Mandarin Chinese alone has four

different tones, and the number varies depending on which variant of Chinese you are studying.

In addition, written Chinese is comprised of more than 50,000 ideograms - tiny characters that represent words, not letters. Most documents typically feature the same 2,500 most commonly used ideograms, but each word must be memorized individually.

Another unique feature of Chinese is the fact that, unlike in English and Romance languages, there are no plural forms of nouns. In addition, there are no articles and verbs are all inflected the same way. Each word has only one grammatical form.

Oklahoma City Chinese tutors can enhance your or your student's language learning efforts in a variety of different ways. Unlike classroom learning, instruction is one-on-one so the instructor is tuned in exclusively to the student's needs through the entire course of study. You or your student are the instructor's only priority and you can practice and ask questions you may not otherwise raise in front of a group of others. Having a dedicated instructor means that instruction can be tailored specifically to your growth as a language learner. One-on-one sessions mean that the teacher can personalize lessons to the learner's pace - moving quickly through concepts the student easily grasps and spending more time on more difficult details.

In addition, a private instructor can help you make learning more effective by leveraging a range of teaching techniques to help you comprehend and speak Chinese. Since the learner is the instructor's sole focus, they can collaborate with you or your student to identify and pinpoint the student's learning strengths and preferences. For example, if you, or your student, learn better through visuals, the instructor can formulate and review flashcards that can help with memorization of Chinese ideogram characters. Tuned-in Oklahoma City Chinese tutors can provide written exercises to complete, which can clarify concepts that a student may not be familiar with.

Successful language learners know that fluency requires work beyond concepts taught either in classroom instruction or in self-paced independent classes. Learning does not occur overnight and - especially with tonal languages - a student must spend a great deal of time practicing pronunciation. Having a dedicated Oklahoma City Chinese tutor can help with this, providing a resource who can help with word recognition, pronunciation, and intonation. Immersing yourself in conversations with someone who is fluent in the language is one of the best ways to ensure that you feel comfortable and confident in your ability to use the Chinese language correctly.

How might I find time to fit Oklahoma City Chinese tutoring into my schedule?

Another important advantage of this mode of learning is flexibility. Your family's schedule is important to you - and to us. We honor the fact that your time and attention are a limited resource and we do our best to make a variety of options available. In addition, we find Oklahoma City Chinese tutors who have the necessary skills and available time to assist with your unique requirements. This lets students get the help they need to work toward their language goals while also considering the family's scheduling requirements.

To tailor to particular instructional preferences, Oklahoma City Chinese tutoring is available either virtually or in-person.

Online delivery takes place through the Live Learning Platform, enabling the instructor and student to communicate with one another face-to-face over Internet chat. Students also have the ability to see recordings of past sessions to review ideograms, word pronunciation, and gain additional information outside of your sessions. Online instruction grants learners the chance to learn and absorb Chinese lessons without even having to leave home.

If you would rather work in person with a Chinese instructor, we can connect you with a local expert who is eager to help. The meeting venue is up to you: whether at home, at a centralized coffee shop, or at the Northwest or Belle Isle Libraries.

In addition to online and in-person tutoring sessions, Varsity Tutors also offers online Chinese language courses. These live lessons take place in a virtual classroom with a knowledgeable instructor; however, an added advantage is the chance to interact and learn with others who are also working toward fluency in Chinese. There are a variety of course sections are available, which enables you or your student to register for a time that best works with your schedule.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Sissi in Oklahoma City, OK
In this tutoring session, the student learned vocabulary and expression about airport and traveling. First, he talked about his Thanksgiving plans in Chinese, and reviewed the vocabulary he learned in the last session. Then, he learned new words about the airport, and used these words to make sentences. After practicing, he also studied some new medical vocabulary.

Speaking practice was the main content of this session. The student has learned the names of several sporting activities, as well as the expression of her interest in the activities. After the class, her parents and I discussed and agreed to start using a workbook, and I have made my recommendation.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Hua in Oklahoma City, OK
I gave the students each a surprise test about vocabulary that are directions or adjectives that have opposite meanings(antonyms). I corrected the ones they didn't do correctly. With Student 1, we learned Unit 4.3 in the book ''Huanying.'' With Student 2, we learned Unit 2.2 to 2.3.1 in the book ''Huanying.'' We also watched a video on YouTube in Chinese, and I asked her what happened and some questions regarding the story. We went through a set of flashcards. We learned all related vocabulary and usage. I encouraged them to use Chinese as much as possible during class. I then corrected their homework sheets about writing characters I gave them last week. I also pointed out the ones that are easy to confuse with other characters that look very similar. Lastly, I gave them homework sheets about character writing. I encourage them to practice more writing characters on their own time.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Cameron in Oklahoma City, OK
We reviewed the grammar from earlier in the week before working on a reading comprehension passage. The student was very good about his tones, and he was able to recite it a number of times. He did fairly well on reading comprehension questions. For homework, he needs to copy the passage twice and then translate it into English.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Kelly in Oklahoma City, OK
We finished the study guide for the exam and reviewed sentence patterns and verbs that are likely to appear on the exam. It seems like a lot of major questions about sentence patterns and grammar were cleared up. Be sure to review example sentences from texts the teacher has given you. Write your own sentences to practice. That will help a lot. Happy studying! There are a lot of verbs and vocabulary words that you have not memorized. Use them in sentences-- that helps a lot! Good luck! Let me know if you need any more help in the future.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Zhan in Oklahoma City, OK
The student is preparing for his big final exam, so tonight's focus was on how and what to prepare, I went through three subjects one by one: English, Science and History. I made a chart to note what to study and what is the main focus of each chapter, and in each chapter what are the keys words and key themes. We went through every book chapter by chapter to highlight those important topics and words for him to review later. I also taught him some techniques on how to respond to some questions in the test and gave him some examples on what some questions might be. He has improved a lot on analyzation skill and is now able to spot keys words very quickly, but he still needs more improvement on organizational skill and how to self express. These two things will help him greatly in the future.
