What Types of Concepts Can I Get Help Reviewing with New York City MCAT Prep?

New York City MCAT prep can help you review all of the concepts you will need to know to be better prepared for the test. There are four sections that make up the MCAT: Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills, Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. Each section is timed and consists of multiple-choice questions. The questions are either independent or based on passages you are provided. You have a total of 6 hours and 15 minutes to complete the test, but with breaks and orientation, your total time spent on the day of the test is closer to 7 and a half hours. Let's give you more information about what to expect in each section and from the test as a whole.

The first section we will cover is the Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section. This section focuses on the basic chemical and physical principles of living systems, as well as the functions of the human body's tissues, organs, and organ systems. You will use knowledge learned in general chemistry, organic and inorganic chemistry, physics, biology, and basic biochemistry. You will also need a solid understanding of the laws of physics, the periodic table, and how chemicals react.

In the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section, your reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, and analytical skills will be measured. The passages you will be answering questions about in this section will come from the social sciences and humanities. You will only need general knowledge about those subjects to answer the questions correctly. You will need to know how the meaning of compositional elements can be inferred, the basic components of a passage, and be able to apply ideas you extrapolate from the passage to new contexts.

The Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section requires knowledge of biological and biochemical foundational concepts, as well as reasoning skills, and scientific inquiry. You will need to know how cells and organ systems work together and separately within an organism, and how they achieve growth and reproduction. You must also understand how cells and organ systems work to adapt to a new environment.

Finally, the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section requires skills you will need to be able to help a diverse population of people. You will need to understand behavior and it impacts on a person's health, as well as how their personality, behavior, and biological factors influence their health. This section focuses on three subjects: biology, introductory psychology, and introductory sociology.

The Medical College Admission Test, or MCAT, is a computer-based, standardized test that is administered all over the United States. The final score of the MCAT ranges from 472-528. This score is the sum of the totals from the four sections. Section scores range from 118-132. Some of the questions you may be asked in any section may be experimental and will not count towards your score. Experimental questions are inserted in the test to try out questions that could show up in future versions.
