If you are going to take the USMLE, Varsity Tutors offers a Raleigh-Durham USMLE course that can be an excellent way to start your test prep. There can be many obstacles in finding a good USMLE prep course - schedule, location, and price are some of the considerations. For many test takers like students from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine or Duke University School of Medicine, it can be a bit frustrating to find a suitable course to enroll in. There are also students from Wake Forest University Medical School who are searching for a more convenient and affordable way for them to have their USMLE review. Fortunately, the USMLE course provided by Varsity Tutors can be taken entirely online, which opens more options to med students preparing for the test.
What are some of the topics a Raleigh-Durham USMLE class can cover?
Having an idea of the content and format of any exam you are going to take can have a positive impact on the way you perform on the test. That's why in the class, you'll receive a comprehensive review of the content on the USMLE. The USMLE has three different exams called "Steps." Your Raleigh-Durham USMLE class instructor can guide you on the types of questions for each Step and you can work on cases and exercises to help you become more familiar with the content.
There will be 280 multiple-choice questions on Step 1 divided into seven 60-minute blocks with 40 questions each. These questions cover basic science principles and will test you on subjects like physiology, behavioral science, biochemistry, pharmacology, pathology, and anatomy.
Step 2 has two sections, namely Clinical Knowledge (CK) and Clinical Skills (CS). For Step 2 Clinical Knowledge, you'll need to face about 316 multiple-choice questions designed to assess your abilities in clinical science principles that are essential for practicing general medicine in a supervised setting. Step 2 Clinical Skills will require you to examine and diagnose 12 simulated patient cases, spending 15 minutes with each patient and another 10 minutes to complete your patient notes. For CS, you will need to go to any of the six test centers in the country - Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and two centers in Philadelphia - in order to take the test.
The last stage of the USMLE test is Step 3. You need to pass Step 1 and Step 2 to be eligible for this test. This part combines multiple-choice questions and computer-based case simulations. You'll have 10 to 20 minutes to complete each patient case simulation.
What are the advantages of enrolling in a Raleigh-Durham USMLE prep course?
A USMLE course provided by Varsity Tutors can offer many advantages you may not have access to when doing your review on your own. You will have access to a structured and comprehensive curriculum led by an experienced USMLE instructor. Through the detailed discussions and real-world experiences that your instructor can provide, you can gain new insights on subjects covered on the test. The USMLE is a test that focuses on your ability to apply your medical knowledge in practical, real-life clinical settings, so your instructor can also help you learn useful test-taking techniques for this type of exam.
You will also have many opportunities in the class to learn alongside other aspiring doctors and listen to their varying perspectives on topics or cases discussed in class. Learning in a collaborative environment has been shown to raise motivation among learners and help them have a deeper understanding of the subject. It can also help them retain the information they've learned longer.
The Raleigh-Durham USMLE course is also conducted online in virtual classrooms, so wherever you are, you can conveniently participate in the course. All you need is an internet connection, and you can log into the course's virtual classroom. Since it's online, we are also able to offer more options when it comes to section times. You can enroll in morning, afternoon, or evening sections. You will also be able to see, hear, and interact with your instructor and classmates and get immediate and relevant answers to your questions. And if you ever need to have extra time to work on subjects you are struggling with, the course also allows you to request one-on-one time with your instructor.
