If you're looking for a St. Louis USMLE prep course to help you study for the exam, Varsity Tutors offers a comprehensive course designed to improve your self-confidence heading into test day. The United States Medical Licensing Exam is a series of three standardized tests required by most American medical licensing authorities for the unsupervised practice of medicine. These assessments are cumulative, which means you will be tested on nearly everything you have studied at a local medical school such as the Washington University School of Medicine, Saint Louis University of Medicine, or another accredited institution. Trying to study all of it without expert guidance can feel very overwhelming, so reach out to us today to learn more about how we may be able to help you.
For example, your St. Louis USMLE class can concentrate on the specific exam, or Step, of the USMLE you're taking. Step 1 covers basic scientific concepts and is generally taken at the conclusion of a med school student's second year. Step 2 covers clinical knowledge and practical skills and is generally taken during a student's fourth year in med school. Step 3 is typically taken during your first or second year of postgraduate training and is generally the final obstacle before earning a medical license.
What concepts can I go over during a St. Louis USMLE course?
The material covered in your course depends on which Step you're preparing for. If you're taking Step 1, you can review basic bodily functions such as the endocrine and reproductive systems. Step 1 is also seven hours long, so your instructor can teach you strategies for maintaining your focus on such a long test.
Step 2 is divided into Clinical Knowledge and Clinical Skills components. Clinical Knowledge is comparable to Step 1, except that it's eight hours long instead of seven. Clinical Skills is a practical exam where you work with actors portraying patients in a supervised setting, allowing the graders to assess communication skills such as your bedside manner and proficiency in English. You've probably never been assessed on your communication skills before, so you might want to roleplay several scenarios with your instructor and classmates so that you understand what is expected of you.
Step 3 is a two-day exam. Day 1 consists of six hours of multiple-choice questions on topics such as pediatrics and cardiology, but most students find Day 2 more intimidating. It has even more multiple-choice questions, plus 13 computer-based case simulations that put you in the position of an attending physician. It can be very stressful to have life and death responsibility thrust upon you, so your instructor may administer practice scenarios so that you're not going into the test blind.
What are some of the benefits of taking a St. Louis USMLE course?
Every St. Louis USMLE class we provide consists of a group of students meeting with a knowledgeable instructor on our proprietary Live Learning Platform. Each instructor undergoes a thorough vetting and interview process, so you can trust that you will receive up-to-date information from a skilled communicator during your sessions. Our digital platform also allows you to see and hear everyone else in the class, allowing you to interact as if you were attending a physical class together without the corresponding logistical nightmare.
You can also communicate with your classmates during your study sessions. You might exchange ideas with your new friends, potentially opening your mind to study techniques or even test-taking strategies you wouldn't have come up with on your own. For instance, maybe you're completing a practice case simulation for the Step 3 exam as a group. One of your peers may have a great idea in the moment, better preparing you if a similar scenario arises on the actual test.
Studying in a group also gives you superior value for your money, as you can split the cost of your course with all of your classmates. You can also request extra help from your instructor if you feel like you need it.
Most importantly, we've designed all of our products with your busy schedule in mind. We offer multiple courses concurrently, including two-week and four-week options to make it easier to find one that works for you. New courses also launch monthly, so you never need to wait too long to get started.
