You want your student to take a Syracuse ACT prep course, and Varsity Tutors understands that you want a professional to help with study sessions. Too many high schoolers try to cram the day before they take a standardized test, even though this process does not help the mind retain information. An instructor can help your student study for all four sections of the ACT so they feel well-prepared on the day of the test.
Regardless of how excellent your student's academic performance is, they can only benefit from additional help from an online ACT instructor. Families living in Upstate New York can find their students academic assistance with a Syracuse ACT class. Collaborative online classes mean your student can study on demand, after school or on weekends - whenever they have the time to focus. If your high schooler attends Jamesville-DeWitt High School, for example, you do not have to drive them far out of town so they have access to great Syracuse ACT courses. Instead, they can work at their pace, from your home.
More high school students are taking the ACT instead of the SAT, and many are taking both standardized tests as part of their college applications. With so many wonderful colleges and universities across the state of New York, it is important for your student to have a competitive advantage when taking these tests.
What can a Syracuse ACT course help my student study?
The ACT has four sections, plus an optional Writing section. Each section receives a score on a scale of 1-36. The entire test takes more than three and a half hours, without the optional breaks. This means that taking practice tests can help your student mentally prepare not only for each section of the ACT but also for the amount of focus needed to complete it.
Aside from Writing, the four sections of the ACT include Math, Reading, English, and Science. The Reading section requires the least time, with 35 minutes to answer 40 multiple choice questions. At its core, the Reading section tests students on comprehension of written passages, word associations and meanings, and differentiating between facts and opinions. A Syracuse ACT course can help your student examine specific written pieces for meaning and themes, then translate this knowledge into finding the right answer in a multiple choice option.
Like Reading, the Science section has a time limit of 35 minutes, with 40 multiple choice questions to answer. Subjects covered in this ACT section include biology, physics, chemistry, and Earth and space science. Even if your student gets good grades in their high school science classes, working with instructors can improve their understanding of analyzing scientific data when it is presented in many different formats, help them understand how to apply the scientific method, and help them comprehend information from scientific investigations and experiments.
The English section requires students to answer 75 multiple choice questions in 40 minutes. This part of the test examines students' understanding of the English language, how topics are developed and how they cohere, and the style and tone of proper written English. Like the Reading section, working with an online instructor through a Syracuse ACT class gives your student the chance to focus on improving their understanding of English and translating this understanding into choosing the correct answer from a list.
Finally, the Math section tests high schoolers' knowledge of algebra, pre-algebra, trigonometry, and some types of geometry. There are 60 questions that must be answered in 60 minutes. The ACT's Math section is also the only part of the test during which students may use calculators, but this means they must understand when and how to apply this tool. Varsity Tutors can connect students with a Syracuse ACT class that provides sections online, focusing on improving their mathematics skills for this standardized test.
The Writing section on the ACT is relatively new - while it is a consistent part of the test, it is optional. It is scored on a scale of 2 to 12, and there is only one question, which gives students 40 minutes to write a short essay. This tests students' ability to draft an essay, analyze different perspectives, and give their own, unique responses to a topic. While the Writing section benefits from studying English and Reading, it is a different approach to thinking - attending a Syracuse ACT course could help your student by giving them several test Writing questions so they can better understand the foundation of an essay.
How can a Syracuse ACT class help my high school student prepare for this exam?
Since the questions and answers on the ACT are different every year, preparing for this test is difficult. However, working in a collaborative program can help your student prepare for the basics of the ACT through repeated test questions. Answering in long-form, written essays is a difficult skill to learn, compared to understanding the best approaches to answering multiple choice questions - but the ACT requires students to have a thorough knowledge of both.
Of course, students learn these basics in their coursework throughout the school year, and during their regular standardized tests in school. However, the ACT is a unique approach to testing, and many students work with Syracuse ACT class instructors to help them learn the format of the exam, rather than the specific answers to that year's questions.
How can I find a Syracuse ACT course to help my student prepare?
If you're reading this, you're already looking for options that can help your high schooler prepare for their college tests and applications. We are here to help you find an online course that your student will thrive in. As digital technology improves, more students, like those attending Nottingham High School, spend time learning outside of school thanks to online tutoring and courses. Regardless of where you live in Upstate New York, a Syracuse ACT course is accessible through an online platform, and instructors are standing by to assist your student in their preparation for this important exam.

I am a finance and accounting professional at a Fortune 100 firm with an MBA and currently pursuing the CMA. My teaching method would absolutely vary depending on the student. Visual learners need different kind of help than non-visual. For visual learners, I would try to paint a picture of the problem or formula so it is easier for them to understand. For non-visual, I can stick more with formulas, numbers, and memorization. ... To get the student not to simply memorize how to get or find an answer, but to help them reach a level of confidence and preparation that makes the material seem second nature to them.
