I am a freshman undergraduate at Johns Hopkins University. I am majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology and minoring in Spanish on the pre-med track! I have been a tutor for all 4 years of high school. I have helped students with mathematics, ranging from middle school to college level courses, as well as intermediate Spanish. I have also worked at Kumon for the past 3 years and have experiences in teaching English, grammar, and reading for all high-school level courses. While I am confident in my abilities to help students in science (biology and chemistry!), I am most passionate about helping students in mathematics, whether that is with the SAT, ACT, AP, and excel at reviewing college admission essays. I'm a current student at Johns Hopkins University pursuing a bachelor's in both Neuroscience and Molecular & Cellular Biology. My favorite subjects to tutor are biology, chemistry, psychology, art history, and environmental science on both a high school and Advanced Placement level. Outside of academics, I like to train for memory sports, and my current goal is to set a Guinness World Record for memorizing the most decimal places of the irrational number phi. I am a junior at Columbia University double majoring in Financial Engineering and Computer Science. Since high school, I have extensively tutored French students for standardized testing (SAT/ACT). This helped me bridge the obvious language gap whilst breaking down the tests into their fundamentals to better grasp the strategy behind them. I firmly believe in learning-by-doing which is why I encourage all my students to try first before revising their methods and understanding of the subjects. Hello! I am a current junior attending Johns Hopkins University studying a major of Molecular Biology with a focus on Computational Medicine. I am a graduate from the University of Maryland: Baltimore County, and I received my degree in Geography and Environmental Science, which is fun stuff like geology and hurricane studies. I was a tutor for 2 years at my university, and I got lots of experience with figuring out individual learning styles and different ways to approach education. I've always been most excited about taking and teaching STEM classes. I love being able to teach science and math the most because they have a reputation for being really difficult, and I love breaking down concepts into bite-sized components that are easier to think about. My teaching style focuses heavily on content understanding, instead of just short-term application. I graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.S. in Biology with Honors in Research and a B.A. in East Asian Studies, along with a minor in Clinical Psychology. I have three years of experience as a Biology II teaching assistant, where I led recitations, ran review sessions, and worked closely with students who needed extra support. Currently a second-year law student at the University of Chicago, Elena tackled the LSAT recently enough to remember exactly where the logic games and conditional reasoning trips people up. I am a recent graduate from a masters program in biostatistics at Columbia University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences, with a focus in neurobiology at Northwestern University. In August, I will be starting a doctoral program in biostatistics at NYU. I am a junior studying Writing for Screen and Television at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts. For the past two spring semesters I worked as a CollegeSpring Mentor, tutoring Green Dot Charter high school juniors for the SAT and teaching them predatory skills for college. I am a lifelong learner, teacher, and researcher in the field of physics. I received a PhD in Physics from the University of Michigan and a BS in Physics from Rice University. I have four years of physics teaching experience at the University of Michigan, primarily undergraduate laboratory courses with an emphasis on electromagnetism, circuits, waves, optics, and real-world applications of these and other physical phenomena. Many of these courses, including one I helped design, focused on helping non-STEM students master physics concepts that may be difficult to grasp in a standard classroom setting. I have tutored in a variety of subjects since high school, but most recently I have spent several years helping students understand concepts and succeed in coursework throughout a large variety of college-level physics topics, from basic mechanics to advanced electrodynamics and special relativity.

I am in my second year at MIT studying mathematics, and I am currently doing a research project in Spectral Graph Theory. Originally from Tennessee, I attended an all-male boarding and day school for high school, and was given a lot of opportunities to pursue advanced coursework and opportunities that weren't available to 99% of students in the area. As a result, I've joined Varsity Tutors as an effort to give back and try to help students get excited about learning various subjects, employing many of the methods that allowed me to succeed.
