I am here to support students in navigating and understanding STEM topics. I have been a tutor for nearly 3 years and I hold a B.S. in Computer Science from The Pennsylvania State University. My tutoring philosophy revolves around maintaining an individualized and open learning environment where I can support students through their learning journey. I look forward to helping my students achieve their goals, whatever they may be.

I am currently enrolled as an applied accounting and finance major at the Fordham Gabelli School of Business where I'm taking business statistics and calculus classes alongside writing and economics classes. In my free time, I watch tons of basketball and football and love action movies.
I am well prepared for the lecture. Before I step out of the classroom, I make sure that each student has understood the lecture to the best of his/her capacity. The ability to motivate students and stimulate their desire to learn is a critical quality of a talented teacher. Every student has different background, ability, and motivation. Identifying each student's need is essential for helping reach his/her potential. My teaching objective is to promote critical thinking, effective use of scientific information, asking relevant questions and approaching these questions in a methodological way, and working in a collaborative manner. To ease the learning process, it is essential to use multimedia and Internet resources as complementary tools for traditional blackboard and chalk teaching.
I am an aspiring applied mathematician, with particular interest in image processing and climate science. I graduated in May 2017 from Washington University in St. Louis with a bachelor's in physics and mathematics, and am beginning a PhD program in September 2017 at the University of Chicago in Computational and Applied Mathematics. I've tutored introductory physics students for three years and enjoyed it thoroughly, as a chance to help other students while revisiting fundamental concepts to enhance my own knowledge. I'm eager to continue reaching out and helping students of math and physics to succeed and, furthermore, to appreciate the beauty and power of these subjects.
I am a rising senior at Harvard College pursuing an AB in Government. Academically, I have diverse interests, including history, language, math, physics, philosophy, music, and politics. In high school, I tutored elementary, middle, and high school students in music, math, ACT and SAT prep, and Spanish. At Harvard, I spent a year as a course assistant in the math department, helping to teach introductory undergraduate calculus. Currently, I volunteer with the Leadership Institute at Harvard College (LIHC) as part of its Social Outreach Committee. This work involves teaching a weekly course called "Fundamentals of Leadership" to a class of middle school students. Overall, I have found my experiences tutoring math to be the most rewarding.
I am still involved in peer tutoring among my friends and classmates.
I am an energetic tutor with an abundance of tutoring experience in a broad range of subjects. As a biology major at Washington University in St. Louis, I am well-versed in chemistry, biology, physics and calculus. I have privately tutored elementary through high school students in these areas of study, as well as algebra, trigonometry and geometry. However, my academic interests are not limited to math and science. My true academic passion is for French language and literature, which is my second major at my university. I developed this passion at a young age, but mastered the language during my semester abroad in a language-immersion program in Toulouse, France.
I am currently conducting breast cancer research as the lab manager in an immunology lab at Columbia University Medical Center. I am extremely comfortable with physics and mathematics (from my studies) as well as biology, chemistry, and biochemistry (through my research experience) and sincerely enjoy tutoring students in those areas. I also enjoy tutoring for standardized tests. While I was studying for the SAT, ACT, and MCAT, all of my preparation was through self-study; as a result, I have a unique approach to preparing for tests that emphasizes knowing the test itself more than the actual material. In addition to tutoring natural sciences and standardized test prep, I tutor Spanish, which I studied for 7 years and spoke for a year while living in Spain. In my spare time, I play guitar, cook for my friends, read, and play with my cat Suki.
I'm Rob! I graduated from Duke University in 2016 with a double major in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Economics. I've been a math teacher in the DOE for the last 2 years and have a Master's of Arts in Teaching. I specialize in high school math and test prep for the ACT, SAT, and GRE.
I am currently a senior at Stony Brook University, and a physics and computer science double-major. I hail from the town of Clarence, New York, a suburb of Buffalo. I enjoy tutoring in part because of my affinity for the subjects that I'll be teaching, but the primary reason is that I like working with people and forming interpersonal connections.
I'm currently a sophomore at Cornell University working towards a bachelor of arts in biological sciences. As a tutor, my ultimate goal is to make sure my students feel confident enough about a subject to answer questions without any help and feel prepared for their exams. I truly enjoy the tutoring process and the ability to help students find their own potential in any subject. I hope to be a good fit for any tutee, and I am willing to put the hours and effort in order to get improved results.
I'm here to share the tips and tricks that I've picked up in algebra, calculus, statistics, and trig with everyone.
I am a student at Harvard studying applied math and genetics. I love to learn and teach and will offer enthusiasm and experience towards the subject(s) of interest. As someone who graduated high school only a few years ago, I understand and appreciate the rigor of preparatory school and associated exams, such as the SAT. I will dedicate myself to my students and help them grow towards their academic goals.
I am extremely invested in making challenging topics less intimidating and am happy to work with students of all levels!
I am a 2016 alumna of Cornell University, graduating summa cum laude in Anthropology with a minor in Global Health. I also participated in the pre-med curriculum, taking courses in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Math. During my senior year, I tutored students from the Department of Athletics and the Office of Academic and Diversity Initiatives in Calculus I. I am passionate about helping others gain the skills, confidence, and understanding to achieve academic success.
I am a junior at Cornell University where I am working toward a Bachelor of Arts in Physics. In the past, I have worked at Kumon as a math and reading tutor. I am most passionate about teaching Math, Physics, and Spanish. I try to bring that passion to each tutoring session so that the lessons are both interesting and enriching. My ultimate goal is simple: when a student is able to explain a topic or even teach it back to me, I am confident that they have truly mastered the material.
I'm from upstate New York and I love to be outside, play guitar, and work out. I have 3 siblings, so I'm used to helping people strengthen their skills and learn new ones. I love most math classes, and I'm attending Boston College in the Carroll School of Management Honors Program. I intend on majoring in finance and mathematics. I look forward to working with you!
I am now a playwriting MFA at NYU, one of the best programs in the country (the story of how I transitioned from physics to theater is pretty funny and I???m happy to share it). While my intensive study of advanced Math and Physics helps me tutor those subjects, I find my theater skills are just as valuable to effective teaching. As a playwright, I have learned to explain ideas efficiently, inspire excitement, and connect with an audience. Using these techniques, I hope to make my students not only better at individual subjects, but also help them fall in love with the beauty of new ideas.
I am currently working in a biochemistry lab at NYU Medical Center and applying to medical school, with hopes of training to be a pediatric surgeon in the future. I have worked as a teaching assistant for a Columbia biology lab course, taught ESL to immigrants from China, and tutored extensively in math, science, and test prep. I especially enjoy tutoring science because I believe that sometimes a little bit of personalized attention can go a long way when students are missing just one or two key points of understanding. I love seeing a concept click and inspiring confidence in my students as they advance through increasingly difficult topics. I also like tutoring test prep because there is no hiding behind the raw numbers, and I enjoy helping my students maximize their potential and achieve their goal scores. Sometimes, a little motivation is all that is needed for a student to excel, and I always work to relate what I am tutoring to a student's interests, both academic and extra-curricular. I rowed varsity crew for three years in high school and one year at Columbia; I also love learning new languages, exploring New York's culinary scene, and (attempting to) recreate some of the dishes on my own!
I am a Master of Architecture candidate at Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Colgate University. While I tutor several subjects, I am very passionate about mathematics and physics because of the tangible progress which I am able to help students achieve, and I enjoy working with students of all ages and abilities. I have been a mathematics and physics tutor for the last eight years and have worked with students enrolled in middle school, high school, and university courses. As a tutor I work to build my students confidence and independence. In my spare time, I enjoy drawing and playing volleyball and tennis.

I am a 23-year-old Columbia graduate with a real passion for teaching. I have been a tutor in both professional and volunteer capacities for nearly 10 years and have taught students ranging in age from second and third grade through college. I have classroom teaching experience as well and can adapt to both group and individual settings. I have taught students of all abilities in a wide variety of subjects. There is no confusion too small or problem too complicated that I cannot help with if not solve. I am exceptionally dedicated to my students; ensuring that they not simply memorize concepts or regurgitate facts but truly understand the material. I ask them to defend their answers which teaches them that the correct response is often less important than the reasoning used to reach said response. I honestly believe that anyone can learn anything given enough time and patience. I try my best to not only be a teacher but also a role model to my students and to interact with them as people not just clients. Most importantly, I believe that being challenging, but also patient and supportive yields the best results. I will always work my hardest to ensure that your student comes away learning the most that he or she can.
I am working as a postdoctoral research associate at the Department of Physics Creighton University, and am stationed at Brookhaven National Laboratory, New York. I also function as an adjunct associate professor of physics at Hofstra University. I started tutoring physics back in my home country, Sri Lanka, during my Bachelors degree. Since then I have been involved in tutoring with high school, freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior students. The strongest reason why I am an excellent teacher is the fact that I truly love the subject. I have devoted over 12 years of my life to specialize in physics, thus I have a very clear understanding of the concepts and experienced in explaining those to students. I am a person with loads of patience, kindness and understanding specially when it comes to teaching. I am really good at coming up with real life examples to help student understand the important aspects of physics principles. Even though I have not taken the tests; SAT math and MCAT physics, I am very confident of tutoring the students who need assistance in both math and physics. As becoming a University Professor is my career goal, I am truly and honestly passionate about been engaged in teaching and mentoring students. Therefore I look forward to lend my helping hand towards students to prosper in their education, as well as to grow up as individuals whom will successfully coop with the responsibilities in our society. Other than been involved in teaching, I am a BIG fan of music and a great singer my self. I love travel, hiking and camping which makes me a nature lover too.
I graduated from Dartmouth College with a double major, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in both Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Music. I continued my education at Columbia University and received Master of Arts in Biology. Starting in middle school and continuing through my graduate career, I have tutored students in a wide variety of subjects, but I was most effective at tutoring math and science because of my lifelong love and aptitude for these subjects. Since I am also working towards a career in molecular biology, I use math and science every day, and I can explain real-world applications and uses for these subjects that may not seem obvious. By demonstrating the use of math and science in everyday life, I am able to help interact with the student and increase their interest in a subject in which they may experience difficulty. I also believe that as a tutor, it is my responsibility to engage with the student to help them achieve and even surpass their goals. In my spare time, I am heavily involved with music in New York City, being part of multiple choirs and continuing to play piano. I also enjoy exercising and exploring the city whenever I have the chance.
I'm Susanna, a third-year physics major and electrical engineering minor at UC Berkeley. I am a senior at New York University studying Finance, Statistics, and Computer Science. I have been tutoring for almost five years at the high school and test prep level and I love the mentoring experience! I believe whole-heartedly in a multi-faceted approach to learning and strive for depth of practice as well as breadth of knowledge. I am well trained in all of the subjects I have listed on my profile, whether through tutoring experience or academic and professional exploration. High school sciences have been a strength of mine since taking the AP exams in high school. Through tutoring, I have kept up to date with changes in the exam and curriculum. My proudest moment was when one of my Honors Chemistry students achieved a 13 point increase in grading from the first quarter of the school year - from 83 to 96. Through my professional and undergraduate education, I am intensely familiar with finance, accounting, comp science, and economics.
I am a recent graduate from at Dartmouth College and I am starting medical school at Weill Cornell Medical School in the Fall. I am an experienced tutor in high school and college English, Psychology, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. Additionally, I tutor for the SHSAT and SAT. I am a graduate from Cornell University where I received a bachelor's degree in Biological Engineering with a minor in Mechanical Engineering. For several years, I have always had a passion for tutoring/teaching others around me whether they were children, classmates or adults much older than I. From my studies, my favorite subjects to help with were Mathematics and Physics; they are closely integrated with each other and personally it is rewarding when my students understand concepts that they initially struggled with. As for my past tutoring experience, I volunteered teaching GED courses around the Brooklyn area. I also took up private one to one sessions with locals who requested my help in subjects. Currently I am teaching an after-school program where I show middle school students STEM related topics through hands on activities. I am also volunteering with SAT Math through Brooklyn College on Saturdays and I am a part time bartender around the Park Slope area. When I am not busy working, I enjoy cycling, playing video games, and just kicking it back with friends.
I am a student at Columbia University in the City of New York studying biochemistry on the pre-medicine track. I also enjoy meeting new people, exploring world cultures, and developing my sense of self.

Frequently Asked Questions
AP Physics covers two main tracks: AP Physics 1 (algebra-based) and AP Physics 2 (algebra-based continuation), or AP Physics C (calculus-based). Both include mechanics, waves, thermodynamics, electricity, magnetism, and modern physics. The curriculum emphasizes conceptual understanding alongside problem-solving, with heavy focus on applying physics principles to real-world scenarios and designing experiments.
Score improvement depends on your starting point and consistency with tutoring. Students who work with tutors on weak areas—whether it's free-body diagrams, circuit analysis, or energy concepts—typically see meaningful gains by focusing on the specific topics that challenge them most. The national average AP Physics score is around 2.5 out of 5, so targeted instruction on high-value concepts can make a real difference in reaching a 3, 4, or 5.
Many students struggle with translating word problems into physics equations, visualizing abstract concepts like fields and waves, and managing the pace of the course. Free-response questions require both conceptual clarity and strong communication skills, while multiple-choice questions demand quick problem-solving under time pressure. A tutor can help you build confidence in each area and develop strategies for tackling different question types.
Ideally, tutoring support should begin early in the school year so you can strengthen foundational concepts as they're introduced in class. Many students benefit from consistent weekly sessions starting in the fall, with increased frequency (2-3 sessions per week) in the final 6-8 weeks before the May exam. This gives you time to master core topics, take practice tests, and refine test-taking strategies without cramming.
Practice tests are essential for AP Physics success. They help you identify weak topics, get comfortable with the exam format and timing (90 minutes for 50 multiple-choice questions and free-response problems), and build test-day confidence. A tutor can review your practice test performance with you, pinpoint exactly where you're losing points, and help you develop strategies for common mistakes—whether that's calculation errors, misreading questions, or conceptual gaps.
Test anxiety often stems from feeling unprepared or uncertain about problem-solving strategies. Working with a tutor builds genuine confidence through repeated practice on challenging topics and exposure to different question formats. You'll also learn time-management techniques, how to prioritize questions on the exam, and strategies for staying calm when you encounter unfamiliar problems—all of which reduce anxiety on test day.
Look for tutors with strong physics backgrounds—ideally a degree in physics, engineering, or a related field, plus experience teaching or tutoring AP Physics specifically. They should understand the College Board's curriculum framework, be familiar with common student misconceptions, and know how to explain complex concepts clearly. Varsity Tutors connects you with expert tutors who have proven success helping students master AP Physics content and exam strategy.
Your first session is an opportunity to assess your current understanding, identify specific weak areas, and establish a personalized study plan. The tutor will likely review your class notes, discuss topics you find confusing, and gauge your comfort with problem-solving and free-response questions. This helps create a focused approach so your tutoring sessions directly target the skills and concepts that will have the biggest impact on your AP Physics score.
