I am currently working on a Master of Arts in Philosophy at Georgia State University, where I serve as a teaching assistant and writing consultant. I currently tutor in the areas of test preparation, government, philosophy, and religious studies. My passion for education stems from the joy I find in helping students achieve their goals. My teaching style involves asking lots of strategic questions to help students discover answers for themselves, a process which my students typically find quite empowering. Still, I recognize that each student has unique needs, questions, and learning styles, so I strive to listen first and then craft individualized plans to meet each student's particular objectives. In my spare time I like to get outside hiking, playing soccer, or volunteering at my church's community garden. I also enjoy reading, watching football, and cooking.

I am an incoming college sophomoore studying Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I was one of the top scholars at Carmel High School in Indiana and have various experiences teaching and tutoring through leading the Carmel High School Science Olympiad team to Nationals for two years in a row. Many of my friends consistently come to me for help with various subjects because of my willingness to help and teach in a way that makes sense to everyone. My specialities are physics, chemistry, math, and economics but I am comfortable tutoring any STEM subject, the SAT, and the ACT. Some of my accomplishments include a perfect 36 ACT score, 800 on the Physics, Math Level 2, and Chemistry SAT subject tests, and a 5 on all the physics, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Macroeconomics, Computer Science, etc. AP exams. When teaching, I focus on making sure that not only do students understand different concepts, but also that students understand why and practical applications of the different concepts. As a recent high school graduate, I have a deep understanding of how high-schoolers think, what is covered in various courses now, and can connect with my students a lot more. Additionally, as an undergraduate teaching assistant at the College of Computing at Georgia Tech, I taught weekly recitation sections of 30 students and held weekly office hours. Therefore, I have lots of experience teaching and working with students.

I am a graduate of the MA Fashion Studies program at Parsons The New School for Design in New York, having previously studied linguistics and foreign languages (concentrating in Russian and French) at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and at McGill University in Montreal. I currently serve as adjunct faculty in the Art and Design History and Theory department at Parsons, where I specialize in courses which combine numerous disciplines within the humanities, such as a course about the relationship between fashion and language and a graduate seminar about writing for fashion publications. I have also led elementary summer art camp workshops in my hometown of Los Alamos, New Mexico. My teaching methods, which are interactive, engaging, and tailored to a range of learning styles, have consistently been described by my students as motivational and encouraging. I tutor a wide range of subjects, from Middle School Math to PSAT and SAT test preparation, but I am most passionate about Critical Reading and Writing and Essay Editing. These are areas in which my students make remarkable progress in short periods of time and also find great pleasure in relating the themes of their writing to their own outside interests and passions. I also enjoy helping students prepare to take standardized tests by addressing, in an understanding and accommodating way, the common anxieties and stresses that can accompany test-taking. Outside of school and tutoring, I enjoy traveling, reading, visiting museums, cooking, and snowboarding.

I am a second year law student at the University of Chicago who hails from the San Francisco Bay Area! I tutor the SAT, ESL, and Spanish. I was an AVID tutor in high school, and after college I taught an ESL class and tutored a high school student in Spanish. In law school, I am involved with the Lawyers in the Classroom program. My tutoring philosophy is based on listening to students work through problems and helping them to spot their confusions or incorrect assumptions. I believe students learn much better when they aren't simply told the right answer or right reasoning; they need to get there on their own.

Frequently Asked Questions
Score improvement depends on your starting point, the amount of time you dedicate to practice, and how quickly you can apply new strategies. Students typically see meaningful progress within 4-8 weeks of consistent work, with many improving by 100-200 points on the SAT or 3-5 points on the ACT. However, jumping from a 1100 to a 1500 SAT takes more time and effort than moving from a 1400 to a 1500—the higher your baseline, the harder each additional point becomes. The most important factor is your willingness to practice what you learn between sessions and identify where you're losing points.
Start by taking a full-length practice test under timed conditions to get a realistic baseline. Then analyze your results by section (reading, writing, math, science—depending on the test) and by question type. Are you missing easy questions due to careless mistakes, or do you struggle with harder conceptual questions? Do certain topics consistently trip you up? Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who excel at diagnostic assessment—they'll review your practice tests to pinpoint exactly where you're losing points, whether it's pacing issues, knowledge gaps, or test-taking strategy mistakes. This targeted approach is much more effective than spending equal time on every section.
Pacing is one of the most common challenges students face, and it's highly learnable. The key is knowing your per-question time budget—on the SAT, you have roughly 1.5 minutes per reading question and under 1 minute for many math questions. Practice tests help you develop this internal clock, but tutors can also teach you strategic approaches like tackling easier questions first, skipping and returning to harder ones, and recognizing when to move on rather than getting stuck. Many students also benefit from learning the specific question formats that slow them down (dense reading passages, multi-step word problems) so they can practice those strategically. With deliberate practice, most students can significantly improve their pacing within 3-4 weeks.
Test anxiety often stems from two sources: lack of preparation (which tutoring directly addresses) and unfamiliar test formats (which practice and familiarity reduce). When you work with a tutor on test-prep, you're not just learning content—you're building confidence through repeated exposure to real test questions and conditions. You'll practice under timed conditions, learn to recognize question patterns so fewer things feel surprising, and develop a personal strategy for managing tough moments during the test. Tutors also help you identify whether your anxiety is affecting your performance (like rushing through careless errors) so you can address the root cause. Knowing you've prepared thoroughly is one of the most powerful anxiety-reducers.
A solid study plan typically includes 5-8 full-length practice tests taken under timed, test-like conditions. Early on (first 2-3 tests), your focus should be on understanding which types of questions and sections are hardest for you, not just raw score. As you progress, you'll take tests more frequently to apply new strategies and build test-day stamina. Most students benefit from spacing these out—one every 1-2 weeks—rather than cramming them together. Between practice tests, you'll spend time reviewing your mistakes (this is where real learning happens), drilling weak question types, and practicing specific strategies. Expert tutors help you maximize the value of each practice test by identifying patterns in your errors and adjusting your study approach accordingly.
The answer depends on your baseline and goals. If you're generally strong across all sections, maintaining that strength is important—but your biggest score gains will come from improving your weakest section. That said, don't completely neglect your stronger areas; test scores are relative, so others are likely working on their weaknesses too. A strategic approach is to spend roughly 60% of your prep time on your lowest section and 40% on maintaining/improving others. However, if you're very weak in one area (like reading), you might need to weight it more heavily early on. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who can assess your specific situation and build a study plan that allocates your time based on your timeline, starting score, and target score.
Most students benefit from 8-12 weeks of consistent test prep, with 5-10 hours of focused study per week. However, timelines vary significantly based on your starting point and target. If you're aiming for a score that's significantly higher than your baseline, you'll need more time. Students starting from a competitive baseline might need just 4-6 weeks of targeted prep, while those working toward a major improvement (like moving from 50th percentile to 90th percentile) may invest 12-16 weeks. The quality of your preparation matters more than the quantity—10 focused hours reviewing your mistakes and practicing weak areas beats 20 hours of unfocused cramming. Expert tutors help you create a realistic timeline based on your situation and keep you on track with a study schedule that fits your life.
