If your student is applying to an independent school or private school, consider reaching out to Varsity Tutors to enroll in a Tucson SSAT course. With help from an SSAT course, your student can gain confidence in their abilities as their SSAT date approaches. The SSAT, or the Secondary School Admission Test, is a standardized exam that admissions offices use to assess a potential student's abilities.
When a student prepares to take the SSAT, they are encouraged to brush up on their basic verbal, math, and reading skills. To help your student prepare for the SSAT, think about a Tucson SSAT prep course to provide them with resources they can use to work towards their goals.
A favorable score on the SSAT proves to independent schools and private schools that a student has the ability to perform in a classroom setting at their institution. The SSAT assesses verbal, math, and reading skills in students at three different academic levels; Elementary Level, Middle Level, and Upper Level. No matter where your student is in the SSAT studying process, consider reaching out to Varsity Tutors to enroll your student in an SSAT course.
What does a Tucson SSAT class consist of?
When you enroll your student in an SSAT class, you are signing your student up for a comprehensive and interactive class that is designed to help students grasp the contents of the SSAT.
The Elementary Level of the SSAT includes a Quantitative/Math section, a Verbal section, a Reading section, a Writing Sample, and an Experimental section. The Quantitative/Math sections ask students 30 questions and allows 30 minutes for test-takers to complete them. This area covers basic math, including number sense, measurement, probability, and properties and operations. Next, the Verbal section of the Elementary Level SSAT asks 30 questions related to language understanding, word relationships, and nuances in word meanings. The following section, the Reading section, provides test-takers with 30 minutes to complete 28 questions. If you want to help your student brush up on their reading comprehension skills, consider signing them up for a Tucson SSAT class so they can approach this portion of the test with confidence. The final two sections of the Elementary Level SSAT are unscored. The Writing sample provides individuals with one prompt and offers 15 minutes for students to write a response. Schools look for a response that shows an elementary student's abilities to organize an essay, use proper grammar, and spell. Finally, the Experimental section asks students sample questions that are being tested for potential future use on the SSAT.
The Middle Level of the SSAT is one hour longer than the elementary version. This form of the exam includes an unscored Writing section, two Quantitative sections, a Reading section, a Verbal section, and an unscored Experimental section. The Writing section of the Middle Level SSAT provides students with two creative prompts they can select from. When looking at a student's response, schools look for a test-taker's ability to organize a written piece, spell, and use proper grammar and punctuation. The next section is the Quantitative section. This portion is split into two sections of 25 questions. The subjects covered include geometry, elementary algebra, and arithmetic. The Reading section of the Middle Level SSAT asks students to interpret meaning from narrative and argumentative passages. Students can review for this section in an SSAT class by studying author's purpose, practicing evaluating opinions and arguments, and seeking main ideas in texts. For the Verbal section of the Middle Level of the SSAT, students are tested on their grasp of English through synonyms and analogies.
If you are an Upper Level student preparing to take the SSAT, a Tucson SSAT class can prep you for the exam by covering the Writing section, Quantitative sections, Reading section, and Verbal section in-depth. The Writing portion provides students with two prompts (one creative and one traditional essay) and asks students to select one to write an essay in response. While this section is unscored, schools read a student's response to look for their ability to organize, use proper grammar, spell, use persuasive writing techniques, and support a statement with examples. The two Quantitative sections of the Upper Level SSAT cover arithmetic, algebra, and geometry, asking students to solve algebraic problems, interpret and create graphs, answer word problems, and so on. Next, the Reading section looks at a student's abilities to interpret meaning, extract information, and conceptualize argumentative passages. Finally, the Verbal section of the Upper Level SSAT asks students 60 questions, 30 of which are related to synonyms and 30 of which are related to analogies.
How can a Tucson SSAT course help my student prepare for their exam?
If your student is getting ready to take the SSAT, help them feel as confident as possible by signing them up for a course. In their course, they can receive guided assistance from a skilled and knowledgeable instructor. Their instructor can answer any questions your student may have in real time, providing them with quick and helpful answers. In an SSAT course, individuals can also benefit from interacting with their peers who are also getting ready to take the SSAT.
Not only does an SSAT course provide students with focused guidance as they move through their test resources, but this course can also help students grow their test-taking abilities. Their course includes information about how to pace themselves during exams, make educated guesses, and manage their time when completing the exam.
