Tutoring review by Amy in Belmont, CA
The student and I spent most of the session reviewing her math homework on using point-slope form equations. She understood the concept very well. She would occasionally make small mistakes (like using a negative sign instead of a positive sign, etc.) that would cause the answers to come out wrong. At first, I would point these mistakes out to her. Then, as we got further into the session, I would advise her to look over her work again to see if she could find the mistakes herself. By the end of the assignment, she was recognizing her own mistakes and fixing them. To help her complete certain word problems, I suggested she write down all the problem gives her and the equation needed to solve it. By doing this, she would more easily be able to see what factors/information is missing and what she would need to obtain by algebra.

Tutoring review by Morgan in Belmont, CA
During our session today, we worked on the student's homework assignment dealing with the chapters on the law of sines and the law of cosines. I began with a general overview of what the law of sines tells us, when and how we use it. We went through that chapter of his homework doing the problems together at first before he felt comfortable doing the problems without help. We briefly review the formula for a triangle's area before moving on to the chapter on the law of cosines. We talked first about the general formula and how it was used, then we began going through the homework problems until he felt confident with it. After finishing his homework, we did a brief review of the unit circle and the values of sine, cosine, and tangent and the primary points in the unit circle. We also discussed converting radians to degrees and vice versa.

The student and I covered simplification, surface area, net figures of 3D images, volume, area of trapezoid, area of rectangles and triangles, commutative property of addition and multiplication, associative property, distributive property, greatest common factor, factoring, and multiplying and dividing exponential functions with the same base as well as how to handle negative exponents. We finished up his summer review book today! I would still like him to review the flashcards every day.

Tutoring review by Christopher in Belmont, CA
The student and I began by getting to know each other, and we then delved into least common multiples in fractions. We worked on tackling each problem in a methodical, logical fashion to come to the correct answer. He has a great attitude and is clearly intelligent and inquisitive. He was a pleasure to work with on our first session. He's still a little shaky on his multiplication tables, so I asked him to memorize his multiplication tables and I'll quiz him next week (making it fun of course!). I'm looking forward to tutoring him every week.

We covered lecture slides pertaining to material on the student's midterm this Wednesday with focus on slides and topics that were most troublesome. We went through example problems of ideal gas law, ionic equations, etc., step by step to confirm understanding. We concluded with a few questions of which I will be sending the solution in stepwise fashion via PowerPoint. I will also be sending additional practice problems similar to the test format.
