Tutoring review by Kristy in Bessemer City, NC
Today we went over converting between decimals, fractions and percentages. The student struggled with some of the questions in the beginning but as we practiced more she started to get the hang of it and recognize patterns. The student is still struggling with her times tables. If she memorizes her times tables these types of problems will become easier for her to do and I mentioned that to her.

We continued reviewing the student's online homework. We completed the unit on trig functions, identities, and applications of trig functions.

We worked on factoring polynomials, difference and sum of squares, difference and sum of cubes, and finding the zeros by factoring. The student just needs the materials explained one on one as the teacher likes to speed over subject matter. I went over some example problems with her and explained them in more detail. The teacher likes to do timed tests which add pressure. If the student gets comfortable with the material, the pressure of time will lessen.

Went over Calc homework regarding the chain rule. The student had some difficulty with it, but by the end, he was definitely understanding it more. We'll continue to work on Calc next week. We also did some ACT Math, where, like before, he seemed to understand how to do most problems but stumbled a bit on the execution. We'll continue to practice so this becomes less of an issue.

Tutoring review by Joyce in Bessemer City, NC
For the first half hour or so we reviewed the student's assigned homework--8 problems reviewing subtraction of whole numbers (with zeros), decimals and mixed numbers, multiplication and division of decimals and mixed numbers. He had trouble remembering a number of these problems, so we went over each one carefully. Then he took a 9-problem test on whole numbers, fractions and decimals. He got all correct except the division of fractions problem. We went over that again, then started percent concepts and percent problems. For homework he will study the first lesson in his test preparation book. It includes definitions and examples for order of operation problems. We will continue with percent problems next session, and begin integer concepts and operations if time permits. As usual, his attitude was great. His desire to learn is obvious and awesome!

Tutoring review by Nemil in Bessemer City, NC
We covered proportions from the student's class notes and his homework as well. He only showed slight difficulties in the wordings of some problems, however, after breaking down the question into smaller parts he was able to understand. He was very enthusiastic about clarifying the material and when introduced to higher level mathematics was very excited. He should continue to practice problems, however it should also be noted that occasionally he may rush through a problem. I encourage him to read questions more carefully and break them down.
