Tutoring review by Anna in Duquesne, PA
The student came prepared with her homework completed and questions from the homework. She is working on a review for her first test in calculus on limits, finding the limit of a function, and finding the limit of trigonometric functions. Per her request, we discussed the intermediate value theorem and using delta epsilon analysis to prove the limit of a function. After finishing the review, the student completed one exercise from each section in the chapter.

The student is still working on his unit on circles, so I gave him many practice problems finding arc measures and using properties of tangent lines. He understands this material well, so he breezed through the problems. I decided to introduce a new topic on inscribed angles. These properties are easy for him to understand, so he picked this up quickly as well. He has had no problems at all with this unit.

We covered linear graphing in depth, using stair step method, and did word problems to practice. The student is struggling a little bit with guessing too often instead of thinking it through. His attitude is improving when we do our own problems. Strategies included breaking the problem into smaller steps (find the slope, intercept, make a point, use stair step, etc.).

Tutoring review by Matthew in Duquesne, PA
The student has improved much over this year and is a lot more confident in his problem solving. This session we went over his homework (Law of Cosines). We spent most of the time, however, working on a his first review packet for finals. He did well and seems to have a strong grasp on the material we have covered this year. I would like to see him work on writing a little more clearly and taking more responsibility for his organizational development.

Tutoring review by Randi in Duquesne, PA
Today, the student and I covered topics that included simplifying rational expressions. We went over when a fraction is undefined and how to solve for that. We also worked on the rules regarding multiplying and dividing rational expressions and adding and subtracting rational expressions. These topics build on information that we previously worked on. He continues to pick up the concepts easily and works hard to understand the topics we cover. He works best by practicing several problems for each topic. He also continues to be very hard working and cooperative.
