The student had missed a week of school and had a lot of assignments and quizzes to catch up on. We worked through about half of the make-up work during this session and made plans to complete the rest later this week. His teacher has agreed to give him extra time and his grades will not be affected by tardiness. The session went smoothly as he was able to pick up on concepts related to probability (combinations and permutations) quickly and was able to interpret word problems accurately.

Tutoring review by Bejoy in Economy, PA
The student and I started going over some problems from a math competition. We were able to do 2-3 problems from the packet but some of the other problems required higher-level geometry and algebra, and we went over the solutions. We worked on a few slope intercept problems and she did make some mistakes at the beginning, but after doing some more practice problems she understood it. We worked on how to write equations in slope intercept form, find the slope of 2 points, write an equation in slope intercept form given 2 points, and how to graph an equation in slope intercept form. She was excellent to work with today and she always puts in her best effort during the session and tries hard to answer the problem.

Tutoring review by Robyn in Economy, PA
Today the student had a test over the previous unit, so we spent most of our time reviewing material from previous units in preparation for her final. We covered exponents and systems of equations. She did very well with systems of equations, but continues to struggle with exponents. She gets confused whenever the problem gets more complicated, such as involving both numbers and variables. I demonstrated how to solve several problems and then did some guided practice. By the end of the session, the student was demonstrating understanding.

Tutoring review by Beth in Economy, PA
The student and I began the session with him doing his math homework that covered place value. He has a good understanding of this and how to read numbers up to 8 digits. We practiced his multiplication for 3s briefly and spent most of the time testing out different color overlays to help improve his reading fluency.

Tutoring review by Abigail in Economy, PA
In this session, the student and I worked exclusively on the SAT reading section. After beginning by testing her on vocabulary, we moved on to practicing questions. She did quite well on the vocabulary section of the SAT (did a good job analyzing the questions to help her find the right answer), and she did great with short passages. However, with longer passages, she struggled to find the main idea and had a harder time answering the SAT's questions as a result. I asked her to complete 1 and a half more reading sections before next week to practice reading and understanding larger reading sections. We will continue to go over this next session.
