Tutoring review by Benjamin in Fitchburg, MA
We specifically covered volumes and surface areas of 3D shapes. The student maintained a positive attitude, trying her best to learn the material she struggled with. To help her remember the formulas, we unraveled the shapes into 2D structures of which she could more easily visualize. From here, we derived the formulas for surface area and volume of each shape; thus, she had a better understanding of where the formulas came from, and now has less difficulty when attempting to remember the formulas. I also reminded her of the importance of keeping a positive attitude before taking a test. Hopefully, maintaining this "I know I can" mindset will help her achieve the grades she desires. Overall, this was a great first session with her, and I believe that with review of the concepts for 10 minutes everyday, she has the tools to do very well.

Tutoring review by Garrett in Fitchburg, MA
The student and I covered algebra review problems, polynomial factoring, graphs of quadratic functions, and completing the square, which all pertain to the new unit for his class. He learned rapidly and seemed to really get the knack for some of the techniques. He struggles the most with graphing functions, such as parabolas, that have been displaced from the origin. I was very impressed this week. I think he has a strong head start and the chance to reach a new level of achievement this unit.

The student's homework was good. He had another tutor help him with the math so I made sure he retained everything he learned. We focused a bit on reading and then some math. We made it through two hours, which was impressive. Some homework was assigned.

Tutoring review by Jimmy in Fitchburg, MA
Today, we went over long division, long division with remainders, and long division with decimals. The student was positive the entire session. I gave him some tips on how to divide faster. He is doing a lot better with long division. He remembers all the steps and does it with little to no trouble. He just has to memorize his multiplication facts so he can work faster.

Tutoring review by Benjamin in Fitchburg, MA
Today, the student and I covered the math section of the test. She does exceptionally well with the first half of the section. We discussed some of the formulas and relationships she needs to have memorized to do well. I suspect that with the math review she's doing with school, she'll created a stronger foundation for me to help her improve. I gave her some work for our next session.
