Today we went through her review guide for her test. This included part and whole proportions, ratios, area, volume, and surface area. Also simplifying expressions and solving for the missing variable. We did extra problems of simplifying and solving because the student was struggling at grasping 3x-x is 2x. After the extra problems she was understanding it better. We also worked with unit multipliers. Sometimes she mixes up how to write the unit conversion. We did extra problems of this nature as well, and she seems to have overcome the tendency.

Tutoring review by Ronald in Floyds Knobs, KY
The student and I first reviewed his geometry homework. This assignment was a continuation of a previous assignment on area of a circle. The student is doing very well in this topic, and he was able to approach these more challenging problems with ease. Once we were finished, we moved on to chemistry and also reviewed an assignment that continued from the previous day. The student is starting to pick up his understanding of acids/bases better because he was also able to answer these questions easily.

Tutoring review by Meghan in Floyds Knobs, KY
The student and I met for the first time. We discussed her test taking experience and her academic background. I then went through a brief overview of the test, focusing on the math section. She is most concerned with the math section. We started with integers, properties of positive/negative, odd/even, and prime numbers. I went through how to select a number to try instead of reasoning through variables. We went through examples of word problems, consecutive numbers, absolute values, three-statement questions, an introduction to function notation, and newly defined operations. She needs to do work on her own but it sounds like she understands what study techniques help her. I hope that working together will help her feel more comfortable with the material and the SAT and in general.

Tutoring review by Nicholas in Floyds Knobs, KY
Today the student and I continued to work on GCF, LCM, and prime numbers. We also worked on PEMDAS which seems to be the focus of this unit, even though it has appeared on each of his last two tests (he hasn't gotten them back yet). He maintained a positive attitude throughout the session. In terms of strategies or study skills, I let him know how to handle exponents, the distributive property, and how to convert standard form to distributive form and vice versa.

Tutoring review by Jennifer in Floyds Knobs, KY
Today we covered sentence structure, how to determine if a sentence is complete, run-on, or incomplete. We reviewed homework from last session which included capitalization and reading comprehension. We also started a reading comprehension about Robert Fulton in which we discussed vocabulary. We will continue next session. I spoke with the student's mom and I will try to include more visuals to help aid with comprehension. Homework this week will include using the website to review sentences, as well as a sentence structure worksheet and a reading comprehension on a fictional character playing catch.
