Step away from the books, and enjoy the beautiful Florida City. Florida is known for its Everglades National Park, so be sure to pay it a visit. The park protects a landscape that knows no parallel in the U.S. The area also provides an important habitat for the rare and endangered species of the area such as the manatee, American crocodile, and the Florida panther. The Everglades is an enormous area that stretches across 1.5 million acres of Southern Florida. The park can be visited on foot or via boat. Motorboats are not allowed within the preserve as they are damaging to the ecosystem, but kayaks, canoes, and other non-motorized boats are permitted. You can paddle your way through the twisting swamps, but it is a good idea to take a guide with you if it is your first time, as the area can be difficult to navigate. You can also walk along provided boardwalks to view the area. It is a great location for bird lovers, as the waters provide a plethora of birds their habitats.

For a bit of local history, head to the Florida Pioneer Museum. The museum and village is an open-air exhibit with several structures. It includes a one-room school house, church, train depot, and locomotive. Stroll through the park and appreciate the architecture and design of years past.

Tutoring review by Elaine in Jeannette, PA
The student and I worked on the review worksheet from class. The concepts we covered include drawing structures of hydrocarbons with functional groups (carboxylic acid, ketone, aldehyde, alcohol, etc.) and naming the structures, finding empirical formula from a combustion reaction, determining how volatile a compound is based on intermolecular forces, vapor pressure curve, and homologous series. She has gained a good understanding of how to draw and name chemical structures, and she quickly grasped the other concepts we covered. We may need more practice with when to number the functional groups.

Tutoring review by Grace in Jeannette, PA
The student made excellent progress today. It helped significantly to find a quiet room in the library - he seemed to be able to focus better and be more attuned to the lesson. We practiced more sounding out of individual letters in a word, went over rhyming, completed one worksheet with word completion activities, and we ended with a challenging but confidence-boosting word search game. He's much more excited about learning to read and we were even able to manage (slowly) getting through spelling the word "crocodile" today (as well as many other simpler ones, including "fish" and "duck").

Tutoring review by Phoebe in Jeannette, PA
We started by working on the language section. The student completed a practice quiz and we talked through all of the answers to make sure she understood them. We then went over the math section of her practice test, focusing on the questions she had missed as well as any she had guessed on. We worked on geometry concepts she hasn't covered in school yet, and practiced a range of other math skills. We ended by identifying correct and incorrect usages of semicolons and commas to help with the language section.
