The student and I went over quadratic inequality. We also revisited factorization. I reminded him of some strategies for solving quadratic equations and how to apply them on quadratic inequalities. I told him to try to solve at least 5 practice questions on each topic, and we will go over them at our next session.

The student and I worked on a couple word problems that used given functional equations. Then I was able to help her learn the trigonometric ratios that needed to be used to find indicated parts of right triangles. She had misunderstood the first of SOHCAHTOA ratios, but I explained what it was. We worked efficiently together to find parts of given triangles usually by entering the ratios directly into her scientific calculator and, when the angle was to be found, using the inverse of the ratio that could be found using given sides to find the angle. We also did a few problems involving tangents, secants, and chords as well as central and inscribed angles of circles. It was a productive session.

The student and I spent the session preparing for his Spanish test coming up. We reviewed preterite vs imperfect, vocabulary, and pluscuamperfecto. The verb tenses have many irregular verbs so I told him he needs to spend a chunk of time continuing to memorize these irregulars.

Today the student continued to work on the summer review packet. We covered factoring with cancellation and fractions involving factoring first. We also worked on parallel lines and the y = mx + b formula and another problem that involved the Pythagorean theorem. This packet is quite extensive in its scope and provides a variety of different topics for review. The student is now going to attempt to complete problems 33 through 60 on his own and we will review them at our next meeting.

Tutoring review by Nathan in Munhall, PA
The student and I began with exponent algebra. The problems were of moderate difficulty, and she did flawlessly. We switched to set theory - Venn diagrams and such. Next, we went over an introduction to probability and counting methods. Lastly, we worked on a new story. I gave her the task of focusing on developing dialogue. Most of her story was descriptions of action, but, after giving her a few examples, the dialogue began to surface more.

Tutoring review by Brandon in Munhall, PA
The student and I began working with variables and plugging in answers. Fortunately, he already had some experience with this, so it went very smoothly. We reviewed ratios, which he picked back up, and division. We also read a passage, and I gave him his writing prompt for the next time.
