Tutoring review by Greg in Old Chatham, NY
I gave the student a practice quiz on transformations. The questions were in several different formats. Given a graph of an original function or set of coordinates and a graph of the same function or set of coordinates after being transformed, he had to list the set of transformations that resulted in this. Given a parent function and a list of transformations performed on it, he had to write out the equation describing it. Given a graph of a transformed parent equation, he had to write the equation for that graph. I focused on translations and reflections, which is all his class has covered so far. Overall, he did well on the quiz. After our little quiz we practiced the other transformations - stretching and shrinking - as well as using some new parent functions (y=1/x and y=a^x). This seems to cover all of the topics in Ch 9 of their algebra book. We spent the remainder of our session working on quadratic factoring, which is covered in the next chapter. I'm hoping that we can use this to work with quadratic functions and do some stuff that relates to physics.

Tutoring review by Jackson in Old Chatham, NY
Today we looked at the cost and production functions of single firms. We did an analysis of the marginal cost vs the marginal benefit of increasing production. After that we did a quick overview of perfect competition in markets. The student picked up the content quickly and is not afraid to ask questions when he needs too. I think he is set up well to do well in his class when it starts.

Tutoring review by Goke in Old Chatham, NY
We covered interpreting pictures of fractions, decimals, and percents. The student had a strong comprehension of the concepts covered. He was able to show the sample space of simple events using a tree diagram. He also verified the number of outcomes via the counting principle. He did well with various models showing equivalent fractions, decimals, and percents. He completed two tables that showed the relationships between dollars, quarters, and dimes. He was also very proficient with completing word problems involving fractions, decimals, and percents. He used the percent proportion to convert fractions into percents. The fractions had denominators that were compatible with 100. He proceeded to convert the percents into decimals by dividing them by 100 or moving the decimal point two places to the left. He will continue to practice by completing homework in his math textbook. We also completed his English homework based on subject, subject complement, direct object, prepositional object, indirect object, direct address nouns, nouns, verbs, and adjectives. He also executed sentence diagrams. He did a good job with the English homework. Overall, I think he had a lot of success in this session.
