Tutoring review by Michael in Oldsmar, FL
We worked today on approximately 30 practice problems for a standardized test that the student will be taking in May. She does not have many struggles -- if she does have one it is making problems a bit more difficult then need be. For many of the problems she knew exactly what to do, especially the ones involving the topics she has covered this year, like the algebra. She didn't seem to have as much knowledge of probability, so we worked on that -- to define probability most simply as "part over whole" and to multiply the probability of each event when calculating the likelihood of a string of events.

The student has an exam on Thursday, and as a result we reviewed material on vectors, in particular parametric equations and vector operations. The material requires application of several formulas and conversion from one set of equations to another. The student did well on most of the topics with the exception of parametric lines. Tomorrow we will work on that and finish the remaining material.

Tutoring review by Meghan in Oldsmar, FL
The student said that he was doing more inequalities, absolute values, and slopes. We then went back to systems of equations. He was doing much better setting up equations and doing the work. We also did some word problems, and he's improved with those as well. We also did a set of three equations/three unknowns. This was a challenge, but he was able to figure out how to approach the question. He was really putting in a solid effort.

We focused this lesson on making flashcards and practicing commonly used fractions with their decimal and percentage counterparts. We also practiced study skills, such as finding patterns to aid in memorization. The student and I played a matching game to help her practice the various fraction/decimal/percentage conversions. Finally, I also helped her prepare for her weekly vocabulary test. She performed well on both her math and vocabulary activities.

We went over the fundamental theorem of calculus, and definition of antiderivatives. We reviewed the Riemann sum and its rules (upper and lower bound), as well as integrals (both definite and antiderivatives). He worked through several problems from his assignment list. He seemed to get the hang of it. He has been doing well on his exams, scoring 90+ on them.
