Tutoring review by Olivia in Sabre Springs, CA
In Algebra, the student had a math assignment that we looked through. He struggled with the exponential problems. However, I will be back tomorrow to help him review before his test, so we will go through additional practice then. In Mandarin, we practiced piecing together snippets of Chinese that the student remembered to create simple dialogue. We practiced introducing ourselves with our name, age, and nationality (i.e. "Are you from China?" "No, I am not from China. I am from Ireland.")

For this session, we continued to work on non-calculator practice AP questions that the student received in class. It is becoming apparent to me that she knows the material well, but has a little trouble applying it to the questions on the AP exam. From now on, most of our sessions will focus on practice problems in order to help her get these down.

Today we went over figuring out equations from a checkerboard as well as algebraic equations. The student has some difficulty adding and subtracting negative numbers. So, I would definitely recommend that she practices on a number line.

Tutoring review by Sarah in Sabre Springs, CA
Thursday was my second session with this student. When we started the session, he had brought an outline of his first essay idea and a solidified list of schools he planned to apply to. During our conversation about the outline and relating it to the common application questions, he decided to change the perspective on his college essay, and so we proceeded to brainstorm with the new perspective. We drew up a calendar to prioritize schools and their corresponding essays, and I left him with a number of assignments to keep him on track towards all of the Early Action due dates.

We solidified his understanding of terminology such as electron affinity, ionization energy, and electronegativity. We also reviewed ionic and atomic radius size through practice examples.
