Tutoring review by Katherine in Stafford, TX
The student and I had an excellent first session.  She's very bright, and I think has the potential to show great progress very quickly.  We began working on the reading comprehension passage-based questions, focusing on literal interpretations and finding textual support. I saw some immediate improvement.  She loves words and already has a well-developed vocabulary, so I gave her an advanced practice worksheet focusing on difficult words for sentence completion problems. She and I then went through four grammar lessons, and I had her apply them to a writing section; again, I saw immediate improvement.  Finally, we began discussing the essay and how to tackle it.

The student  and I work on science and multiplication today.    She has a test this Wednesday on the science terms. At first  she got community and habitat mixed up. After a few short breaks, she know all the words that she needs.  She is getting so good at the multiplication game that I have to be quick to catch up with her.

Tutoring review by Philip in Stafford, TX
We talked about independent/dependent variables and their relationship to domain and range. When given a set of numbers for domain and a set of numbers for range, the students are able to identify if the relationship between the two sets in functional. This is good. I will review the textbook a bit in preparation for next time. They will cover this in class this week, so they are a bit ahead of the game so far. We will check their progress next week.

Tutoring review by Lauren in Stafford, TX
Today I met with the student's sister, who is also taking the ISEE in January. She has not previously seen the ISEE, so we discussed the layout/structure of the exam, as well as timing and instructions. She reported that she feels confident with vocabulary and reading comprehension. We briefly discussed angles, lines/rays/line segments, properties and naming of triangles, and naming of three-dimensional figures. She was focused and polite throughout the session, and quickly caught on to the new material. We plan to meet again next Tuesday.

The student had one more assignment to complete in preparation for tomorrow's quiz over the unit on probability. He did not have much trouble with the work. I also answered his few lingering questions on how conditional probability works and the difference between disjoint and independent events.
