The student and I focused this week on systems of linear equations. She has grasped the concept of graphing to solve and we are working on elimination and substitution. I will be bringing her papers to do for homework.

The student started working on his homework regarding simplification of radical expressions. At first, he was stressing out that he did not understand how to do this topic. We defined what a square root is and then we talked about how squaring and taking the square root are inverse functions. I gave him just two examples and he was flying through the homework questions. There were 30 questions and he ended up with all correct answers after fixing minor mistakes such as multiplication errors. His handwriting is very messy which I think contributes to a large amount of the mistakes that he makes on his homework. It is hard to see what numbers he is working with when his math is all over the page. If he can organize his work more, I think this will help him organize his thoughts more efficiently. This should allow him to eliminate all mathematical errors while doing his assignments and tests. He has, since the beginning of our sessions together, picked up skills very quickly and today was no exception.

Tutoring review by Gabriel in West Richland, WA
We covered the methods of solving two variable equations. The student seemed to develop a good grasp of the material by the end of the lesson. For future sessions it would be helpful to either have specific homework questions or let me know what the concepts being covered are ahead of time so I can have prepared some of my own questions.

Tutoring review by Stephanie in West Richland, WA
Today we practiced reading comprehension, wrote an essay, and worked on math skills. The student still has some work to do on math - I suggested methods of writing questions using the workbook as a guide. He will need to work on functions and substitutions, although his fractions/probability skills are very good. He has very impressive spelling and grammar skills as well.

Tutoring review by Kyle in West Richland, WA
The student has a test coming up, which we prepared for, reviewing probability distributions and random variable mean and variance. We also spent the time covering some AP free-response questions, both to help her prepare for that test and to help her prepare for her teacher's quizzes and tests (as they use old questions). She has a good understanding of the math, but these free-response questions are her notable challenge. We will make an effort to cover more of them in order to help her best understand the subject matter.
