If you need help preparing for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), Varsity Tutors can help you identify the right Virginia Beach MCAT prep solution to help you work towards your MCAT scoring goals. Whether your ultimate goal is to enroll in the Eastern Virginia Medical School, the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, or another top-rated medical school, you will need to impress them with your MCAT scores.
Most medical schools require candidates to include their MCAT scores as part of the application process. Scores are required because they have been identified as an accurate way to predict which students will have the ability to navigate medical school successfully. The skills and concepts evaluated by the MCAT are the same ones students must rely on throughout their medical education and beyond. If you're not entirely confident in your abilities in any of these areas, it's critical to spend time studying and preparing for the test. Not only will this help you on test day, addressing areas of academic weakness before they become problematic in graduate school can be the difference between becoming a doctor and having to find an alternate career.
If you want a significant advantage over candidates who choose to prepare for the MCAT on their own, consider adding professional instruction to your preparation efforts. Continue reading to learn more about what the test covers, how it is set up, and how Varsity Tutors can help you with your Virginia Beach MCAT preparation efforts.
What can Virginia Beach MCAT prep cover?
Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems; Psychological, Social, Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems; Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills/ and Biological Foundations of Behavior are the four sections you will face on the MCAT. You are given just over six hours of testing time to complete all of the multiple choice questions on the exam. You will receive five scores for the MCAT. Four of these scores come from the individual sections while the fifth is a composite of the other four.
Each of the sections has a time limit of no more than 95 minutes in which you are expected to answer up to 59 items. The majority of questions are associated with specific reading passages. However, there are some questions that are not associated with any reading selections. It's also possible you will see some experimental questions that are included to help the designers of the exam refine and improve the testing experience. If you do encounter any of these, they will not have an impact on your score.
Some of the subject areas you will need to review for the MCAT include English, reading comprehension, general chemistry, introductory physics and biology, inorganic and organic chemistry, biochemistry, psychology, and sociology. Within each of these are a diverse collection of specific concepts and skills on which you will be evaluated. You can prepare for specific topics, concepts, skills, and subject areas with the help of a prep class or a private tutor.
How can a Virginia Beach MCAT prep class help me prepare?
A customized learning path isn't something that should be limited to a few students. We understand how valuable a little flexibility can be, which is why our system is designed with the needs of many different learning styles in mind. We have two and four-week classes available, which gives you the option to choose the amount of time you spend preparing. The classes are all developed in individual sections, which allows us to offer new sessions each week. This type of modular design means you can start whenever you're ready, and you'll have a degree of freedom in choosing which sections to pursue.
Your learning environment is also up to you because all of our classes are delivered online. If you like to work in a bustling atmosphere, you can attend classes at a local coffee shop. If you prefer to work without any distractions, you can attend your classes at home or in a library. Online classes also mean you won't have to add a lengthy commute to and from your study sessions.
How is working with a Virginia Beach MCAT tutor different from taking a course?
Working with a private MCAT tutor gives you much more scheduling freedom. If you have a busy schedule, you know just how valuable time is! When you enroll in a course, you are limited by class availability. If classes aren't available at times you can attend, you either have to jump through hoops to rearrange your life or miss the opportunity of professional guidance as you prepare. That's where private tutoring comes in.
You can schedule private sessions to accommodate your schedule. You can meet with your instructor during the week and on weekends throughout the day and into the evening. If you have a schedule that changes from week to week, private sessions give you the maneuverability to maintain your prior commitments while also prioritizing your MCAT preparation efforts.
One of the most significant differences between private and group instruction is the degree of personalization. In a classroom setting your instructor must present preselected curriculum to the entire group and then facilitate discussions and learning projects in addition to answering individual questions. When you work with an instructor one-on-one, the content of each session is determined by your academic needs, learning style, and MCAT scoring goals. You also have your teacher's undivided attention and can ask as many questions as you want and get instant feedback on your work.
How can I get started with Virginia Beach MCAT prep?
Whether you want to enroll in a Virginia Beach MCAT prep course or connect with a private MCAT tutor, Varsity Tutors can help. You deserve the professional guidance and academic support these types of resources can provide.
