I definitely try to impart my passion for problem solving onto people I tutor. In my spare time, I enjoy playing and watching most sports but especially basketball, tennis, football, and cricket. I am a recent graduate of Brandeis University where I double majored in Neuroscience and Health Policy. I am a veteran of the Montgomery County Public School system. I graduated from the International Baccalaureate Program at Richard Montgomery, and was an AP Scholar with distinction. I love working with people to help promote understanding, especially in the areas of math and science.... Teaching style should strongly depend on the student, else you risk either wasting time on ideas that are already understood, or on a method that won't get through. Determine what the student does and doesn't already understand, and work from there; guiding a student towards figuring out the correct answer is usually much more valuable than simply spouting information.

I love working with students. I find it an exciting challenge because there are so many ways to be successful at it and I am looking forward to exploring as many ways as possible to help students learn.... There is no such thing as a bad student. There are only unmotivated ones and it is a teacher and tutor's responsibility to motivate them to learn.... Get to know them to figure out what they like and how they prefer to learn something.

...and taught a political philosophy curriculum at the Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece. I love working with kids, and I read and write children's books and young adult fiction in my spare time (as well as poetry and adult fiction). I love exploring ideas in fields from Literature to Neuroscience, and have a lot of experience working and volunteering in libraries. I have a side interest in permaculture and systems design.... I believe strongly that each and every student possesses an innate attraction to learning. I think that the best avenue to fostering learning is to activate a child's latent creativity and personal engagement to the topic, often by allowing them to choose the pathways and subjects that they wish to learn, with myself as a knowledgeable guide. This philosophy can be applied to any kind of learning, from test prep to school subjects. I think that lecture has its place, but in most instances only serves to turn off students to learning, and has to be kept to a minimum.

...notes, then they can do good on any examination testing the understanding of that concept. Based on this philosophy, I think that the best way to teach is to create a more interactive form of learning, where both tutor and student are actively involved in the process. ...most comfortable tutoring. Math is fun for me because it's so concrete, the answers are right or wrong. I guess I mean to say it's an exact science.
