If you would like to have your student attend an Atlanta area private school, it may be beneficial to enroll them in an Atlanta ISEE class by contacting Varsity Tutors. The ISEE is a standardized test that many private schools use as a way to make admissions decisions. While it is not the only factor, performing well on the ISEE could improve your student's chances of getting into their dream private school.
The ISEE is divided into four different levels. The level your student will take is dependent upon which grade they are in. Students who are entering second through fourth grades take the Primary Level ISEE. Students who are entering fifth or sixth grades can take the Lower Level test. Students who are entering seventh or eighth grades can take the Middle Level test, and students who are entering ninth-grade and above can the Upper Level test.
The Lower, Middle, and Upper Levels all have the same amount of questions and students have the same amount of time to complete each section at all three levels. Additionally, all three levels have five sections, including Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, Math Achievement, Reading Comprehension, and an Essay.
The Primary Level test is different than the other three levels in the sense that students entering third and fourth grades take a test with three sections while students entering second grade take a test with four sections.
What can an Atlanta ISEE class help my student review?
An Atlanta ISEE class can assist your student in reviewing a variety of different topics across several different subject areas. As mentioned previously, the Lower, Middle, and Upper Levels of the ISEE all contain five sections. What follows is an overview of what each section covers across all three levels.
Quantitative Reasoning
Quantitative Reasoning includes 37 questions and students will have a maximum of 35 minutes to complete this section. At the Lower Level, this section covers number logic, comparison, and estimation, among other topics. The Middle Level test is more concerned with using formulas to calculate measurements, using the distributive property, and operations involving variables. Finally, the Upper Level test has students make inferences about data sets, work with triangles and quadrilaterals, and find the mean, median, and mode.
Verbal Reasoning
The Verbal Reasoning section includes 40 questions and students will have a maximum of 20 minutes to finish it. At the Lower Level, students are expected to be familiar with elementary school-level vocabulary and be able to complete sentences based on context clues. The Middle Level test focuses on a mixture of middle and high school-level vocabulary. It also emphasizes the parts of speech and suffixes and prefixes. Finally, the Upper Level test emphasizes high school-level vocabulary and synonyms.
Math Achievement
The Math Achievement section consists of 47 questions and students have a maximum of 40 minutes to finish it. The Lower Level test focuses on whole numbers, percentages, and fractions, among other topics. The Middle Level test emphasizes ratios and proportions, prime numbers, and measurement, to name a few concepts. Finally, the Upper Level test covers word problems, quadrilaterals, and exponents, among other topics.
Reading Comprehension
The Reading Comprehension section contains 36 questions and students have a maximum of 35 minutes to finish it. Across all three levels, this section has students read through different passages and answer questions about them. At the Lower Level, this section has students focus on the main idea of the passage, vocabulary, and tone. The Middle Level test has students identify figurative and literal language use and using information from the passages to answer questions. Finally, the Upper Level test requires students to compare and contrast information and identify cause and effect.
Essay
The Essay section only contains one question and students have a maximum of 30 minutes to finish it. Across all three levels, the Essay section has students read through a prompt that covers a topic that may be interesting to students at their specific grade level. They are then asked to write an essay about it. This section is geared towards measuring students' skills when it comes to organization, punctuation, and grammar. It also has the benefit of providing students with a chance to let their prospective schools know a bit more about them.
Primary Level
The Primary Level has an Auditory Comprehension section for students entering the second grade. This section contains six questions and students have a maximum of seven minutes to finish it. Students are required to listen to a series of passages and answer questions about them.
For second through fourth graders, the Primary Level test contains a Writing, Math, and Reading section. The Writing section has students look over a picture and write a story about it. This section is designed to measure students' creativity and writing abilities. The Math section is multiple choice and requires students to answer questions about basic math concepts. The Reading section is also multiple choice and measures students' ability to answer questions about vocabulary words.
How can an Atlanta ISEE course help my student prepare?
Atlanta ISEE courses are designed to be as similar as possible to a traditional classroom experience. As such, your student can work with both an instructor and other students. The benefit of working with an instructor is that they can help your student go over material that might be on the exam. Whether this includes going over vocabulary words at any level or going through various math-related topics, their instructor can help them prepare for each section of the ISEE.
It can also be useful to work with other students because it allows your student to engage in group discussions and group activities. This can be valuable for students who have a difficult time staying focused when listening to an instructor because it provides an alternative for reviewing the material.
Enrolling your student in an Atlanta ISEE course can also be helpful because it takes place online. This makes it easy to find a course that fits into your student's schedule because they can simply take the course at your house.
How can I enroll my student in an Atlanta ISEE prep course?
Enrolling your student in an Atlanta ISEE prep course is as simple as contacting Varsity Tutors and signing them up for either a two-week or four-week session. This can be achieved by reaching out to our educational consultants either online or over the phone.
