Varsity Tutors understands that the Graduate Record Examinations, or GRE, is a hugely important test for prospective graduate school students, and we're here to help you connect with resources like a Boulder GRE prep course or an academic coach.

Undergraduate students and professionals who are looking to go back to school and improve their career prospects, including those who attend the University of Colorado at Boulder, know that the GRE is something they'll likely have to take as they move toward graduate school. Your score on this exam can be an important factor in your graduate school application process. This 3 3/4 hour exam covers topics like Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. If you're just beginning to prepare, you may be interested in looking for Boulder GRE preparation help. Varsity Tutors can connect you with a Boulder GRE tutor or enroll you in a Boulder GRE prep course.

What does Boulder GRE prep include?

There are three main sections to this exam, and Boulder GRE Prep can help with all of them. This computer-based test is accepted by thousands of colleges and universities, including UC Boulder. There are three scored sections and two that are unscored. The three scored sections are Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. The two unscored sections are an Experimental section and a Research section.

You will need to work quickly to complete the entire exam. When you work with a Boulder GRE tutor, you may gain an understanding of what the test looks like, and what you can expect to see when you sit down to take it. Let's start by diving into the Analytical Writing section.

The Analytical Writing section requires that you analyze an issue and analyze a task, with half an hour to complete each task. This section tells admissions boards how well you can articulate complex concepts and support your ideas by providing examples and reasons that back your argument. The section also looks at how well you examine claims with the available evidence and if you can maintain a focused discussion. Finally, it assesses your command of the written English language.

The Verbal Reasoning section is comprised of two subsections that are 20 questions each. Questions in this section focus on reading comprehension, text completion, and sentence equivalence. You'll be asked to read a passage and answer related questions to show how well you understand. There are typically up to six questions per passage, and 10 passages per test. For text completion, you can expect to be asked to choose the best answer (from up to five options) for blank spots in short passages. Finally, in sentence equivalence, you'll be given partial information in a sentence and you'll be expected to choose the best answer to complete the sentence. There will be six choices to choose from, and you'll be instructed to choose two answers.

The Quantitative Reasoning section is two sections, with 20 questions. You'll be tested on basic math skills and your understanding of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. There are three different types of questions: quantitative comparison, multiple choice, and numeric entry. There may be more than one answer required for some multiple choice questions.

There are two unscored sections that are meant to test potential questions for future tests. If there is an Experimental section, it will be included in the Verbal Reasoning or Quantitative Reasoning sections and it will not be identified. The Research section may replace the embedded Experimental section, and if it is included, it will be identified, and it is optional.

How can Boulder GRE prep help me?

You have two options when it comes to Boulder GRE preparation. You can have one-on-one instruction with an instructor who focuses on you during your sessions, or you can take a test prep class with a group of other students who are also preparing for the same test. There are benefits to both methods. At Varsity Tutors, we can help you find either type of review - or even a combination of the two. It's not uncommon for students to use both models of academic coaching services when they are preparing for a test like this.

If you work better in a collaborative environment with opportunities for discussion, taking part in a Boulder GRE prep class led by a qualified instructor can help you as you work to clarify the tough topics. In addition to allowing you to study with other students, you can take part in the interactive study sessions from wherever you are, since the class is entirely online. You might learn strategies you hadn't thought of, or gain some insight into particularly difficult concepts. There's quite a bit of scheduling flexibility in this model as well. You can choose whether your classes last two weeks or four, and new sessions begin each week.

If you prefer one-on-one sessions, we can introduce you to a Boulder GRE prep tutor who can create a plan designed to meet your needs, yet it can remain flexible. An academic coach can create a plan of study and a schedule of sessions that takes your learning style, academic strengths and areas of opportunity, and your likes and dislikes into account. They can create a plan that targets the most challenging of topics, although you may also highlight the topics you're not struggling with. You can meet with an academic tutor in a specific place where you're comfortable, or you can connect virtually over our Live Learning Platform.
