Learning has always been a passion of mine, and I just love expanding my brain with new facts and information. Few things are as rewarding as imparting that knowledge to another, and for that reason I have chosen to become a tutor. I firmly believe that the more informed and educated one is the better prepared they are to meet life's challenges.
I currently work as an IT specialist for the Federal Public Defender's office and have been doing so for the past 5 years. I love my work as I get to incorporate my passion for computers while at the same time utilize my law degree. There is never a dull moment in our office as we get to interact with some of the most colorful characters that even Law & Order writers couldn't come up with in their wildest dreams. My position has also given me the flexibility to be available weeknights and weekends, which I took advantage of for 2 years while attending culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu.
I feel most comfortable working with students in high school or beyond with my main areas of focus being LSAT preparation, English, grammar, and essay writing. My friends and family come to me for proofreading or editing because they know I am fanatical about spelling, punctuation, grammar, writing style, and substance. The written word is not something to dread or fear as the ability to read and write well can do nothing but open doors for you in the future.
I consider myself a pretty laid-back, positive person with an approachable personality, and I never shy away from a good laugh. I have even been known to do amateur stand-up comedy on occasion. If nothing else it does wonders for overcoming any fear of public speaking. I have a lighthearted approach and have every confidence in our ability, together, to overcome whatever goals you have set for yourself.
I grew up in the DFW area and attended Grapevine High School before getting my B.A. from Notre Dame and then returning for my J.D. from SMU. I have pretty much lived in the area my whole life. When I'm not golfing, I enjoy pub trivia as I consider myself a wealth of random, useless information. I also enjoy cooking, rowing, camping, and the occasional chess tournament. Nothing can put your ego in check faster than being schooled by an 8-year-old prodigy (pun intended).
